Job Description:

This position reports to the Department Chair and directs the comprehensive academic advising and support services of WEC’s Student Services’ Office. Incumbent partners with WEC graduate and undergraduate program coordinators to develop and implement policy and procedures related to the department’s academic programs; coordinates with departmental faculty to provide graduate and undergraduate course scheduling, directs student recruitment, coordinates graduate admissions, and directs other academic program needs. Represents academic programs to outside stakeholders, including parents, prospective students, alumni, and wildlife professionals who provide internship, research, and employment opportunities to students. Also interacts regularly with the Office of the University Registrar, the UF Office of Admissions, the Graduate School, the UF International Center, the Office of Student Financial Affairs, Office of the Provost, and the College (CALS), and must be knowledgeable with the policies and processes of these central administrative units to monitor the department’s compliance with them. Also develops special events for outreach, recruitment, student development, and alumni. Serve on departmental committees with faculty.

Academic Advising and Support Services for WEC Graduate Program:  Coordinate MS & PHD graduate admissions and faculty recruitment of graduate students. Ensure admission policies of UF Graduate School and department are met; develop petitions for exceptions to admission policy. Communicate with prospective graduate students and present programmatic opportunities to students. Develop/implement orientations. Monitor student progress to degree to ensure UF Graduate School and departmental requirements are met. Develop petitions for exceptions to policy, when required. Provide general advising services during UF registration periods. Create/edit WEC Graduate Handbook content, Graduate Catalog content, WEC Graduate webpage content, and WEC Graduate Spotlight newsletter. Develop content for department’s graduate list-serv. Coordinate with Chair/Faculty/Mgr Administrative Services to award assistantship funding and organize TA assignments. Develop/organize MS Symposium.

Academic Advising and Support Services for WEC Undergraduate Program:  Coordinate with College on freshman and transfer admissions, and related orientations. Represent undergraduate program at UF at Santa Fe Center. Provide academic advising to Wildlife majors and minors and assist faculty with student mentorship. Direct all student services related to undergraduate program including, change of major, minors, drop/add, withdrawal from all courses, petitions, financial aid audits, etc. Monitor/program new curriculum requirements into students’ degree audits, monitor progress to degree, and ensure compliance with all departmental, College, and university undergraduate degree requirements. Prepare student degree audits for degree certification by College. Advise students about study abroad. Coordinate research, internship, and employment opportunities by promoting opportunities and scheduling interviews. Create/edit content for Undergraduate Catalog and WEC undergraduate webpages. Develop content for undergraduate list-serv.

Develop and organize special events for students, alumni, and potential employers, including events that recruit students to UF natural resource majors and facilitate natural resource agency employment. Manage graduate and undergraduate scholarships and awards. Serve on department’s Graduate and Undergraduate Program Committees. Prepare annual graduate and undergraduate program assessment reports. Coordinate with Graduate and Undergraduate Program Coordinators to provide data and analysis of graduate and undergraduate programs as directed by Chair. Coordinate with faculty to schedule graduate and undergraduate courses, including instructional opportunities involving outside stakeholders; support Department’s online and distance education initiatives; provide text adoption; and collect final grades.

Travel to state colleges to represent academic programs, as well as travel to stakeholder events.

Expected Salary: 56,000.00; commensurate with education and training
Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in education, counseling, or an academic field directly related to the advisor’s area of responsibility and two years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or an academic field directly related to the advisor’s area of responsibility and three years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of FERPA and UF sexual harassment prevention policies essential.
Knowledge of UF SIS and GIMS systems.
Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel preferred.
UF PRO 3 Academic Department Support Certification highly preferred.
Knowledge of professional employment and The Wildlife Society certification requirements preferred.
