Laboratory Technician II

Job Description:

Laboratory Technician II conducts chemical analyses on water samples from Florida lakes, streams and near shore coastal waters to evaluate their limnological characteristics. The Laboratory Technician will be focusing primarily on chlorophyll analysis, other analytes may be prioritized, based on laboratory needs.


Individual is also responsible for conducting multiple chemical analyses as described in the American Public Health Association’s Standard Methods and adjustment to these methods described in Florida LAKEWATCH’s Standard Operating Procedures. Individual will be responsible for analyzing water for total phosphorus, nitrogen, specific conductance, color, pH, total alkalinity, and chloride analyses.
Laboratory Technician will enter, edit and manage data from analyses, using Excel spreadsheets while maintaining Quality Assurance and Quality Control procedures for all laboratory analyses.
Laboratory Technician will prepare test solutions, compounds, and/or reagents for laboratory personnel to conduct tests.
Assist the Scientific Laboratory Manager in laboratory operations as needed


other duties, as needed and assigned by the LAKEWATCH Scientific Laboratory Manager or Director


Expected Salary:

$15-$19

Minimum Requirements:

Associates degree in an appropriate area and two years of related experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of related experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Must be able to operation and maintain a SEAL Analytical AA3 auto analyzer, spectrophotometers, other laboratory equipment and all computer software associated with laboratory equipment. Must be able to produce high quality analytical data and report those data accurately. Must have knowledge of quality assurance and control (QAQC) tracking in analytical labs. Must be good at working within a team and individually.
