Job Description:

Field, Laboratory, and Greenhouse Research (see below for breakdown)

In collaboration with supervisor, conceive, design and execute fruit crops production (with focusing on stone fruits and grape) and plant physiology experiments in the field and laboratory. Experiments may involve nutrient/carbohydrate analyses, plant growth measurements, plant propagation, pruning, canopy management, irrigation, application of plant growth regulator, care and maintenance of containerized plants. Responsible for designing experiments, supervise their implementation and interpret the results and presenting to the supervisor for final approval.

Supervise and assist graduate students, postdoctoral associates, and visiting scientists in laboratory safety protocols, assist with training of personnel in proper laboratory operations and research procedures. Assist in training on proper use of laboratory equipment.

Modify methods/techniques from the literature to fit current research problems.

Data entry, statistical analysis and interpretation.

Preparation of written reports of research and grant proposals; preparing materials, methods as well as adding the field trials to the proposals.

 

Managing Field, Laboratory, and Greenhouse Research Operations (see below for breakdown)

Hire, train, and supervise OPS and Work Study personnel. Supervise the implementation of experiments, using laboratory equipment and handling research materials.

Maintain equipment operation, order research materials and reagents, perform university-mandated surveys and paperwork, monitor and supervise safety compliance, and other organizational duties.


 
Expected Salary:

Commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in biology or a closely related field and seven years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree in biology or a closely related field and five years of relevant experience; Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Fruit crop production Laboratory experience

Strong motivation for learning research skills Proficiency in MS office

Highly motivated with the ability to work as a team player as well as independently Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
