Job Description:

This full-time, time-limited position is part of a team that supports faculty and staff in the UF Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) and the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) through the CALS Center for Online Learning and Technology (COLT). The Communications and Video Assistant will contribute to planning and implementation of communications and marketing campaigns, mainly to external audiences to promote non-credit courses, and to our faculty clients to distribute information about services and resources. The Communications and Video Assistant will also produce video content for use in UF/IFAS Extension Online Learning (non-credit) and CALS (for-credit) courses.

Job functions include: 

  • Using established studio processes, creates video for digital communications and for-credit and non-credit courses. Communicates with clients on pre-production plans, storyboards projects, sets up and records studio productions, edits video and other digital content, and communicates status of projects. Assists with creation of field videos for communications and courses.
  • Assists with strategic management of digital communication channels, including social media accounts for UF/IFAS Extension Online Learning, to promote non-credit courses and engage with faculty, staff, and external clients. Collaborates with CALS and IFAS communications staff and COLT team to develop and implement marketing campaigns for UF/IFAS Extension Online Learning.
  • Assists with design, editing and formatting of content for communications and marketing materials and channels and for online courses, which may include images, infographics, reports, flyers, factsheets, web pages, and instructional materials.
  • Develops social media content and recommends strategies to effectively engage participants. 
  • Updates and maintains the CALS COLT website and recommends website improvements.
  • Supports development and maintenance of style guides for consistent communications and production of online non-credit courses. Organizes and maintains digital content including appropriately archiving files.
  • Maintains knowledge of current practices and trends in the videography and communication/marketing fields.

This is a time-limited position with a minimum of one year of funding.

Expected Salary:

$18.20-$19.64 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Video and photography experience and expertise is highly preferred, including producing and editing videos in both studio and field settings. Ability to follow through in all phases of production projects from concept and pre-production meetings through final delivery, including experience directing on-camera talent and setting up on-location lighting and audio.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Vmix software for studio recording. Demonstrated proficiency in video editing and use of multimedia software, especially Adobe Premiere and After Effects.
  • Experience in social media marketing and website management.
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques.
  • Ability to use appropriate tools, techniques and media to communicate information about the organization internally and externally. Knowledge of organizational vision, structure and operating principles for UF/IFAS Extension Online Learning, IFAS, Extension, and CALS, and ability to apply this understanding to diverse situations.
  • Ability to work both independently and with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience.
  • Knowledge of a variety of formats, styles, and techniques for publishing materials and producing video content appropriate to for-credit and non-credit learners.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to process information and carry out tasks with high levels of accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and activities and effectively prioritize and allocate time to meet deadlines and schedules.
  • Animation/motion graphics experience is a plus.
