About the Position: 

The mission of the Transfer, Adult Re-entry, Parent, and Pregnant (TAPP) Student Center at California State University Fullerton is to assist TAPP students connect with university resources and a network of Titans with similar backgrounds and experiences to increase their academic, personal, and professional development. Our vision is to to continuously evolve to meet the unique needs of non-traditional students by providing resources and recognition as they obtain their education. We hope to create an inclusive environment that reaches beyond the classroom allowing our students to establish strong ties to the campus and surrounding communities. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Associate Director, Veterans Resource Center and TAPP Center (Administrator I). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

This position will support students by building communities that foster a sense of belonging, creating opportunities to engage in self-discovery, and serving as a hub for resources in inclusive and affirming spaces, programs, and events for students who are transfers, adult learners, pregnant, parents, veteran, and/or military families. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, student-centered professional approach to their work, a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices, and a demonstrated commitment to social justice, integrity, collaboration, flexibility, and compassion.

Under the general supervision of the Director of the Veterans Resource and TAPP Centers, the Associate Director is an integral part of the departments’ leadership team and assists in providing guidance and administration for the programs, including staff supervision, campus partnerships, community outreach, and communications management. Manages the external relations efforts by serving as a point of contact for external partners and stakeholders while ensuring consistent and cohesive departmental outreach and communication. Has decision making authority in these areas and is required to use independent judgment and sound political acumen in both routine and complex situations.

Works collaboratively with a wide variety of departments across the university to create and implement student engagement opportunities that complement the students' academic experience. Ensures the coordination and continuity of existing program and guides the development and implementation of new initiatives in the VRC and TAPP Centers. Serves in a consultative role for campus partners on issues of diversity and inclusion and builds collaborative relationships with collaborators and stakeholders on- and off- campus.

Stands in for the Director as needed in representing the VRC and TAPP Centers within the Identity and Belonging cluster, the Division of Student Affairs, and across campus. This position will also be responsible for other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in an area related to Student Affairs, Student Development, and Educational Leadership. Three years of professional student services work experience including experience supervising professional staff. Demonstrated ability to recruit and develop staff. Demonstrated ability to analyze and respond to complex and sensitive situations using sound judgement and political acumen. Demonstrated experience with outreach and communications in a higher education setting. Experience with website design and maintenance, social media management and engagement strategies. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with a diverse student population of faculty, staff, and the public, through a student-centered lens. Demonstrated skills in decision making, facilitation, mediation, collaboration, project management and fiscal planning. Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and competency in the areas of culturally relevant programming, diversity education, program development and implementation. Experience working with highly visible areas within division or organization. General administrative knowledge, including organizational, personnel, and fiscal management. General knowledge of and experience with program and departmental assessment. Demonstrated commitment to issues of diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice.

CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications

A doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field. Three years of experience leading teams, programs, and/or departments. Five years of experience working in program coordination serving diverse and traditionally underrepresented students. Direct experience working with multiple constituencies including adult learners, transfer students, parenting students, military-connected students, students of color, LGBTQIA+, undocumented, and/or students with intersecting identities. Demonstrated understanding of the academic culture within and knowledge of relevant issues affecting public four-year institutions.
