The Office of Engagement and Extension (OEE), in cooperation with the Colorado State University (CSU) colleges and other units, has general charge over the University’s educational programs and services across the areas of engaged scholarship, extension, and extended campuses, which complement and reinforce the research, teaching, and service missions of CSU. OEE is collaborative space for faculty, staff, and students pursuing and promoting community-based research, service-learning, industry partnerships, and other forms of the scholarship of engagement. In partnership with the CSU colleges and other divisions, OEE faculty and staff work throughout the state of Colorado to engage individuals and communities in the design, implementation, and application of scholarship and educational opportunities. The OEE Vice President is the principal administrative, academic, and fiscal officer for the division, reports to the CSU President, and works closely with the Provost/Executive Vice President. OEE includes over 400 employees, and operates with a total budget across the enterprises of approximately $85 million. OEE is one of the most institutionally comprehensive commitments to engagement and outreach among all land-grant and other universities. The Larimer County Extension Strategic Guidance Plan recognizes Youth Development, along with Household, Family & Finances, Health & Wellbeing, and Food & Agriculture as significant needs within our communities that we can address through education. Youth Development is primarily achieved through a vibrant 4-H program. In addition to this position, members of the 4-H team include a Youth Development Livestock Specialist, two program coordinators and admin support. Existing programs include numerous 4-H Livestock and Family & Consumer projects, out-of-school STEM programming, and a new Juntos program. The Extension staff in Larimer County includes seventeen staff members [a director; seven agents including this position (agriculture/natural resources, horticulture, family and consumer science, 4-H youth development livestock; and Community Development); an Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program educator, and several program coordinators and support staff. Position Summary
OEE invites applications and nominations for an Extension County Specialist, 4-H Youth Development. This is a full-time, twelve (12) month, non-tenure track Extension faculty position. Faculty rank is dependent upon the candidate’s academic credentials and professional experience and is subject to review by the Extension Promotion Committee. The faculty appointment, evaluation, and promotion standards are centered around the three core duties of extension faculty – educate, create, and connect . Candidates are sought with interests that complement and expand upon current initiatives and education activities in OEE and CSU Extension.
The Larimer County 4-H program is one of the largest traditional club programs in Colorado with 800 – 1000 youth members and approximately 300 adult volunteers that support the program. This individual works under the guidance and supervision of the Larimer County Extension director and supervises a 4-H Juntos and STEM program coordinator and administrative support staff. They also work as a member of the Larimer County Extension team, the Larimer County 4-H team, and as a local representative of Colorado State University. Along with the 4-H Livestock Specialist, this position provides leadership, guidance, direction and educational programming to support the 4-H youth development program in Larimer County. This individual will have programmatic responsibility for youth and adult volunteer development in several areas including family and consumer science and some general projects, as well as Juntos and STEM out-of-school programming. Additional 4-H programs are available and can be used to meet local youth needs, such as Health Rocks. Other duties include annual club chartering and assisting with recruiting and onboarding of new families, as well as supporting various 4-H competitions and programs at the Larimer County Fair and supporting and assisting those members competing at the State Fair. In collaboration with the 4-H team, provide support and guidance to various 4-H clubs, councils and committees and coordinate and attend camps and conferences, often on nights and weekends. Evaluating and reporting programmatic impacts is expected. Larimer County’s goal is to make 4-H the program of choice among youth and adults, seeking opportunities for personal development, engagement, community building, successful futures, and fun.
The primary office location for this position is in the Larimer County Extension Office in Fort Collins, Colorado. While this position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, the individual in this position is expected to maintain a balance establishing a presence in the primary office, to effectively carry out the duties of the position. The work schedule will vary, and occasional nights and weekend work will be necessary.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Completed bachelor’s degree. Conferred degree must be in education, family and consumer sciences, youth development, leadership, social sciences, natural resources, science, non-profit management, or a closely related field that can significantly contribute to administrative and/or program responsibilities. (Please note, a successful candidate without a completed master’s degree will be required to complete a master’s degree within five years from the start of employment to advance through the faculty ranks. Failure to do so will result in termination unless a compelling reason is accepted by the Vice President of Engagement and Extension).
  • 4+ years professional experience relevant to the Essential Job Duties (below) of this position.
  • Course work and/or professional experience must provide a broad and significant understanding of youth development, education and family and consumer sciences.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.

Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Completed master’s degree. Conferred degree must be in education, family and consumer sciences, youth development, leadership, social sciences, natural resources, science, non-profit management, or a closely related field that can significantly contribute to administrative and/or program responsibilities.
  • 2+ years professional adult and youth volunteer development, leadership and management experience including volunteer recruitment, selection, orientation, education and training, motivation, evaluation, recognition and support to prepare volunteers to take on increasing leadership, management, and diverse public education/information roles.
  • Experience and/or certifications in managing conflict, mediating outcomes, and facilitating group discussion/decision making.
  • Successful experience developing financial support for educational programs: grant writing, fund raising, contracting, or cost recovery.
  • Experience in audience needs identification, program development, evaluating, and reporting results of programs.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish.
