AmeriCorps and Colorado State University Extension (CSUE) joined forces to give youth the opportunity to engage in 4-H Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) projects. This 4-H program focuses on out-of-school time education that encourages youth to develop 21st century workforce skills, graduate from high school and consider STEM academic and career choices.
 
We are an AmeriCorps State program funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) through Serve Colorado–The Governor’s Commission on Community Service. The program is administered by Colorado State University Extension and the Colorado 4-H Youth Development Program.
 
Through 4-H Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) out-of-school time programming, the CSUE 4-H STEM AmeriCorps Program will address AmeriCorps’ national service priority for Education – providing, supporting and facilitating access to services and resources for economically disadvantaged youth that contribute to improved educational outcomes, increased likelihood of high school graduation and preparation for success in post-secondary education.

Position Summary
This member serves in Clear Creek County at King-Murphy Elementary School in Evergreen (partner site) developing and delivering youth development programs emphasizing 4-H Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) in out-of-school time settings to support children and youth (ages 8-18) in obtaining the skills and opportunities that will lead to graduation from high school and preparation for entering the workforce, while developing their interest in STEM. One (1) full-time AmeriCorps position is needed. Service will begin with the new member orientation training on August 28 and 29, 2021.
Position Minimum Qualifications
  • Be willing to provide direct services, strengthen the community or build the capacity of the organization as described in the position description. 
  • Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national or a lawful permanent resident alien of the U.S.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED and be at least 18 years old. 
  • Have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Pass required criminal background checks, including a National Sex Offender Website search, to serve with at-risk or vulnerable populations. AmeriCorps service is contingent on passing these background checks.
  • Be willing and able to complete the required hours of service by July 29, 2022. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Have completed some college coursework, college degree (in education, psychology, or other social service preferred), or equivalent work experience or background.
  • Be dedicated to community service.
  • Experience working with youth and enjoyment of working with youth.
  • Hands-on experience in the areas of education, youth development, STEM or other related field.
  • Knowledge of developmental youth milestones and characteristics.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to make a commitment to complete term of service (between August 2021 – July 2022).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to serve in a team setting and to promote collaboration.
  • Ability and willingness to develop innovative and creative approaches to assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability and willingness to serve in a position with flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to use a computer for e-mail communication, online reporting (bi-weekly timesheets, quarterly progress reports, monthly impact statements, etc.

Salary Range Full-time members earn a service allowance of $15,100 for their term of service (1700 hours). The service allowance is distributed approximately every two weeks and is taxable. Upon completion of service, you’ll receive an Education Award of $6,345.

Essential Job Duties


Job Duty Category Program Delivery and Planning
Duty/Responsibility
  • In collaboration with the 21st Century Learning Center Out-of-School Time Program Manager, School Principal, and Site Supervisor, the Program Coordinator will lead the planning, delivery, and evaluation of educational 4-H STEM programs to youth in out-of-school time settings.  This includes incorporating and implementing educational enrichment activities, service-learning events, community partnership development, and volunteer recruitment within the programming framework of the host site.
  • On all contact days during the school year starting on September 7, 2021, through May 26, 2022, Monday-Friday, 3:30-6:00pm, Program Coordinator will plan and implement activities for 6 (minimum per class) to 24 (maximum per class) youth following ratio guidelines.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the site including planning, set-up, program/activity implementation, clean-up, administration, and ordering and/or donation of program supplies, including daily healthy snacks.
  • Create a monthly program marketing flyer in English for families; must be submitted to School office by the 15th of the prior month for distribution to families; starting on September 15th for the month of October programs. 
  • Recruit and train community volunteers to assist with programs.
  • Serve as an advisor to volunteers, including high school students, by providing leadership and guidance as appropriate.
  • Collect, document and report quantitative and qualitative impact data, including photos, for monthly impact statements and quarterly progress reports.
  • Based on determination made by School District Program Manager of King-Murphy family programming needs for early release days, non-contact days, holiday breaks and summer break (June-July), coordinate and deliver appropriate programming in partnership with the Clear Creek Recreation District/Kidz Korner program, Mountain Youth Network/TREK, and the Clear Creek Library District.  
  • Accurately and professionally discuss with community partners and volunteers the objectives of the AmeriCorps program, positive youth development, and site-specific objectives.
  • Manage relationships with partner sites.
  • Accurately complete and submit enrollment paperwork and reports, including setting and tracking program goals and reporting to stakeholders through monthly impact statements and quarterly progress reports.
