The Department of Medicinal Chemistry (MC) in the University of Florida College of Pharmacy (COP) invites applications for a full-time, 12-month position at the rank of Assistant Scientist (non-tenure track). The successful applicant will have a commitment to excellence in research. This position will be responsible for management of the lab, supervision of students and visiting scholars.
The Assistant Scientist will also be responsible in the isolation and structure elucidation of constituents from Mitragyna species in order to investigate the pharmacology associated with individual alkaloids/constituents and extracts. Also, in the preparation of extracts of plants used as opium substituents, and in semi-synthesis or synthesis of lead molecules. These extracts, fractions or pure compounds (either synthesized or natural products) will be evaluated for their interaction with opioid and cannabinoid receptors with the aim of developing new agents for pain treatment and/or addiction. The successful candidate will have expertise in NMR and mass spectrometry with a strong background in bioassay-guided isolation of natural products and structure elucidation, and have a strong background knowledge of opioid and cannabinoid natural products; and active participation in the department and College.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D in Chemistry, Pharmacognosy or a related scientific discipline. Post-doctoral research experience is required. Excellent communication skills are essential. Criminal Background Check Required.
