Department: Interventional Radiology
Shift: Day/Evening (7:00AM- 5:30PM)
Hours: Full Time (40 hours a week)
On Call- must be within 30 minutes of UC Medical Center
Bonus: Up to $30,000

Primary Purpose: The Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse is a health care professional that works under the direction of a qualified Interventional Radiologist. Interventional Radiology (IR) is a sub-specialty of Radiology where minimally invasive procedures are performed with the help of image-guided technology (X-ray, CT, Ultrasound, etc.) to diagnose and treat diseases. The Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse monitors/assists with procedures on adult patients requiring emergency, medical, therapeutic, diagnostic and invasive services that result in an accurate diagnosis and/or optimal treatment while maintaining maximum patient safety, high quality, efficient and personalized care to patients, families visitors, and other employees with respect for dignity of the individual and their physical, psychological, sociological, cultural and spiritual needs.

Job Duties:

• Performs/ reviews and documents a pre-procedural patient assessment to obtain adequate information, communicates pertinent data to licensed provider, and promote positive outcomes for patients. Follow the safety steps required to perform their duties and be in compliance with medical, state and federal safety standards.

• Provides patient care patient/family education, patient monitoring, and drug administration in the Interventional Radiology Department (pre, intra, and post procedure) under the direction of a licensed provider to ensure patient safety and positive outcomes.

• Evaluates patient response to diagnostic and interventional procedures and medications during interventional radiology procedures.

• Maintain current skills, knowledge, and competencies in area of specialty. Utilize evidence-based practice, research, clinical judgment, and nursing skills based on the principles of psychological, biological, physical, and social science in planning and providing care. Document care provided accurately and in timely manner utilizing Epic. Exhibit critical thinking and problem solving skills to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care. Serve as the patient advocate. Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals and interdisciplinary team members to plan and deliver care.

• Participates in unit based PI activities to positively impact patient outcomes. Monitor and evaluate quality of care with focus on patient safety and implementing change to ensure best practice in the Radiology Department. Serve as a clinical resource to unit/department and to new associates. Knows patient satisfaction goals and expectations to meet customer needs in a positive and professional manner. Exhibit excellent verbal and telephone communication skills with all customers. Utilize the values adhered to in all interactions

• Stays current related to unit/department/medical center activities, policy and procedure changes, and regulatory requirements.

• Must be able to perform above duties based on "population served" standards / competencies to include age-specific and diverse patient types.

• Provides pre-procedure, intra-procedure and post-procedure care of patients undergoing Interventional Radiology procedures.

• Is competent in moderate sedation under the direction of a physician

• Follow proper radiation safety techniques including compliance with local, state or federal regulation.  Uses proper shielding to reduce radiation exposure, adheres to correctly wearing dosimeter badges and maintains a working environment where radiation exposure to self, coworkers, and patients is as low as reasonably achievable.

 




Qualifications

 

Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.  Associate's degree, minimum required. Bachelor's degree, preferred.

License and Certification:
Current Ohio RN License.
Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc.) current before end of department orientation.
ACLS

Years of Experience:  2+ years of nursing experience
