The Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology is seeking a full time Applic Developer Analyst V. As a multitalented federated learning and large language model engineer you will play a pivotal role in building innovative infrastructure, interfaces, and applications that will radically redefine the way we engage with clinical research, medical education and training, and healthcare delivery. Through close collaborations with industry partners like as NVIDIA and Mark III Systems, we are leveraging generative AI, AR/VR/MR, and federated learning technologies to build the next-generation of digital healthcare.
In this highly agile role, you will collaborate with an experienced team of physicians, data scientists, AI researchers, 3D creators, distributed computing experts, and hardware engineers. Your role will be dynamic based on a fast-paced research and development agenda and will include diverse tasks spanning multiple layers. You will be expected to lead technical aspects of multiple projects and meet strict deadlines for deliverables.

Essential Functions;

Develop and Implement Large Language Models
Create cutting-edge solutions for Conversational AI capabilities and epics in healthcare
Develop and leverage state-of-the-art advances in natural language processing using pre-trained large language models (LLMs) for analyzing and reasoning over clinical notes and other unstructured data in the context of clinical problems.
Lead a collaborative research effort to advance our generative AI research agenda through multiple projects, yielding new algorithms, prototypes, theories, tools, methods, analyses, and insights.
Implement Federated Learning Techniques
Drive and lead research and development initiatives in federated learning, focusing on the implementation and optimization of privacy-preserving techniques within large-scale distributed systems.
Design and implement federated learning algorithms to train large-scale machine learning models collaboratively without direct access to user/patient data.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate federated learning models into existing products and platforms.
Ensure data privacy and model security in compliance with regulations and best practices
Best Practices, Team leadership and Project Management
Foster integration across hybrid processing environments (AI, CLOUD, API, Web, Micro Services).
Provide technical assistance to and oversight throughout project development and execution.
Define subsystems and their interfaces, allocate responsibilities, and communicate requirements for interactions within the solution context.
Identify opportunities to create reusable components and advance technical strategies.
Establish and maintain best practices for data exploration, end-to-end model development and deployment lifecycle, and data/code/documentation management.
Continuously evaluate and incorporate state-of-the-art advancements in AI, machine learning, LLMs, and privacy-preserving techniques.
Document technical processes and contribute to the knowledge sharing within a diverse team.

External Engagement and Collaboration
Engage with external stakeholders, industry partners, and funding agencies to explore collaborations opportunities and promote the institution’s research capabilities.

Expected Salary:

$100,000 - $130,000 Annually 

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree and six years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor’s degree and eight years of appropriate experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2+ years of people management.
• 5+ years of experience working within the Enterprise Delivery Ecosystem, including multi-layer integrations and emerging technologies.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with state-of-the-art natural large language models (e.g.,BERT, Longformer, RoBERTa, etc.) in resolving use cases like named entity recognition(NER), text classification, entity relation extraction, etc.
• 5+ years of experience developing in a public cloud ((AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
• 5+ years of experience on an agile team and working collaboratively with product, design, and engineering members.
• Profound understanding of privacy-preserving computation of distributed data for federated learning and multi-party computation tools for privacy-preserving LLM computations.
• Healthcare domain expertise
• Ability to scope projects and estimate required effort to build end-to-end applications.
