About the Mentor: Dr. Shao obtained his PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Iowa in 2019, under the supervision of Dr. Gary E. Christensen (IEEE Fellow, AIMBE Fellow). From 2019 to 2022, Dr. Shao worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University, USA, in the research group led by Dr. Mirabela Rusu. Dr. Shao's research mainly focuses on developing machine learning and deep learning methods for medical image analysis. His research findings have been published in top-tier journals and conferences, e.g., IEEE TMI, MedIA, MICCAI, and CVPR.

 

Job Description: Dr. Shao’s lab in the Department of Medicine at the University of Florida is seeking a highly creative and motivated postdoctoral researcher in the areas of deep learning and medical image analysis. The candidate will be responsible for developing deep learning methods to solve challenging problems in medical image analysis, for example, image registration, image segmentation, image denoising, image super-resolution, image reconstruction, cancer detection, and image-to-image translation. The successful candidate will have exclusive access to at least 10 NVIDIA A100 GPUs and will work closely with a multidisciplinary team consists of computer scientists, radiologists, pathologists, urologists, and surgeons at the University of Florida, UCLA, and UCSC.

Expected Salary: Salary is negotiable, commensurate with education and experience.
Minimum Requirements:

Required Qualifications:
• A PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, or related fields.
• Research experience in deep learning and image processing.
• Familiar with PyTorch.
• At least one first-author publication in top-tier conferences or journals in the field.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with medical imaging data, e.g., MRI, CT, and ultrasound.
  • Experience with SimpleITK.
  • Candidates with experience in variational diffusion models are strongly encouraged to apply.
