East Stroudsburg University’s Department of Early Childhood and Elementary Education is looking for Instructor(s) to teach method courses in the Science, Language Arts, Social Studies, Math and Arts content areas. Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country’s largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun. 


The Department of Early Childhood and Elementary Education at East Stroudsburg University is establishing a one-year, temporary faculty teaching pool. Candidates must be able to teach one or more of the following areas: ECED 232: Child Development and Cognition, ECED 323: Project and Play, ECED 321: Language and Cognition, ECED 412: Math for the Academic Success, ECED 413: Science for the Developing Child, ECED 420: Advocacy and Leadership, ECED 331: Teacher and Researcher and ESL courses.  The successful candidate will be an active member of the department and will work to develop and mentor students.   Applications on-hand will be used to fill vacancies as needed.  
The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will include supervising student teachers and teaching undergraduate, middle-level, or graduate-level language arts, language and cognition, and social studies and science courses in education. The successful candidate will demonstrate highly effective teaching and enthusiasm for student advising and the mentoring of a diverse undergraduate and graduate population.  ESU faculty are also expected to serve the University by participating in activities including, but not limited to committee memberships, curriculum development, and community service. The successful candidate will be a skillful educator with defined preparation and clearly articulated professional goals, who demonstrates: a consistent stable contribution to the discipline, the ability to effectively apply the necessary skillset (including classroom technologies), a dedication to teaching courses at a broad range of levels and class-sizes, a commitment to working with students of diverse backgrounds and a flexible research program tailored to undergraduate students and appropriate for the institution.
ESU’s Early Childhood Education program has adopted the Professional Development School (PDS) model, which is shown to be one of the best teacher preparation models. ESU’s Early Childhood Program focuses on continuous professional learning and leading for all participants, guided by need and a spirit and practice of inquiry. As a Professional Development School (PDS), ESU Early Childhood Education is a learning community that aims to advance equity, antiracism, and social justice within and among schools, colleges/universities, and their respective community and professional partners. Additionally, the PDS model embraces the preparation of educators through clinical practice.


Qualifications
• A Master’s degree in Education or related field, a doctoral degree will be preferable. 
• A specialty in teaching language arts and social studies in elementary/middle-level classroom settings is required
• Minimum 3 years of teaching experience is required in elementary/middle-level classroom settings
• Previous experience in college-level teaching will be preferred
• Knowledgeable about the Professional Development School (PDS) model
• Involvement in research, presentation, or publication will be given preference

Program Development
• Participate in annual systematic assessment of the program
• Participate in analyzing data and make recommendations for curriculum and programmatic revisions where necessary
Teaching Responsibilities
• Provide evidence-based instruction in accordance with the policies set forth by PDE, the department, college, and university
• Post and keep regular office hours for the convenience of students
• Participate in the assessment of course, student learning, and program outcomes
• Incorporate student service-learning opportunities

Advisement
• Assist in the advisement of students
• Guide and counsel students toward personal and career development
• Track students’ completion of progression requirements

Academic & Organization Commitment
• Serve on campus committees
• Mentor Adjunct Faculty
• Participate in faculty meetings
• Participate in accreditation reviews and reports
• Engage in the academic and organizational life of the department, college, and university
• Pursue scholarly interests
