Under the direction of the Associate Director of Housing Operations, the primary role of the Assistant Director of Housing Occupancy & Assignments is to manage the daily operation of all West Chester University (WCU) owned and operated residential facilities – 2,400 beds in four traditional-style buildings and two apartment complexes in a manner that maximizes housing inventory, student engagement, and student satisfaction; assists with the planning and implementation of staff training; and supports other initiatives for a functional area of the department that generates $13.5M in housing revenue.
 
This position also serves as a Process Advisor, a key resource to students who find themselves having to navigate campus individual or group investigations, and/or discipline processes including the sexual misconduct policy (either the complainant or the respondent). Process Advisors receive training to ensure that they are familiar with university policies and processes, can address frequently asked questions by students and their families, and understand their range of options as applicable. 
 
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of housing database management systems; be able to provide outstanding customer service in difficult circumstances; communicate clearly and effectively with multiple stakeholders; demonstrate proficiency in data management and tracking with high levels of attention to detail and accuracy; a commitment to working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 
 
Responsibilities include: 

  • Execute all aspects of the room selection and assignment process
  • Implement data tracking, record-keeping and documentation systems related to functional oversight
  • Maintain up-to-date competencies and knowledge of The Housing Director (THD) or other database management system the department may use
  • In conjunction with campus partners, develop a marketing and communication plan to promote on-campus living and summer conference programs for revenue generation
  • Manage meal plan process including board charges and assessment and support of the University Dining Program as necessary and key aspects of the summer conference program
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships that best position WCU Housing in the competitive marketplace through collaborative efforts with areas such as Admissions, Facilities Management, Dining Services, and the Assistant Dean for facilities and the DRLHS; collaborate to develop and implement of all short and long-term construction and renovation projects
  • Communicate with students, parents and families, about the overall housing process
  • Interact with key campus and external stakeholders related to alignment of policies and practices
  • Maintain daily relationships with key stakeholders – Admissions, Athletics, special programs and requests for facility/bed usage
  • Maintain the database management system, The Housing Director (THD)
  • Processes new and returning students housing applications and room assignments
  • Provide direction and training to Residence Life staff on all occupancy-related processes including room changes, consolidation, and extended housing 
  • Provides leadership and planning in the development and implementation of short- and long-term initiatives for university conference operations in university-owned apartments, and guest housing accommodations
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 


Minimum Qualifications
  • Three years full-time professional experience in housing and residence life
  • Bachelor's degree in education, business, or related field
  • Experience utilizing housing database management systems/ software
  • Experience supervising professional and student staff
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends when necessary

 


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Student Affairs or related field
  • Experience in residential life or residential education in a higher education setting  
  • Experience working within a public-private partnership or in a residential program 
  • Knowledge of ADA requirements and policies and procedures that may impact housing operations
