West Chester University of Pennsylvania's Department of Geography & Planning invites applicants for the position of Center for Geographic Information Systems and Spatial Analysis (CGSA) GIS Lab Manager.

Housed in the Department of Geography & Planning, within the College of Business and Public Management, CGSA works with students, faculty and staff from across the University and multiple disciplines, to support the integration of GIS and other geospatial technologies into coursework, research, and management decision-making. The CGSA supports teaching, research, and the local community, with the use of geospatial technologies CGSA also engages with local community partners to leverage the power of geospatial data and analysis to address local challenges with creative, data-driven, solutions.

The GIS Lab Manager oversees two GIS Labs and a planning studio; supports faculty teaching, research and community engagement activities; supports student lab use, student hardware/software training and troubleshooting; maintains lab, data and network security; and assists the Dean and the Geography & Planning Department with special projects.

 Responsibilities include:

  • Support faculty and students on research and applied projects
  • Support student lab use, training, and troubleshooting
  • Support community engagement activities
  • Maintain software, hardware, internet server, data and other resources in the labs and studio
  • Manage ESRI accounts, licenses, and other geospatial software
  • Collaborate with University Information Services and Technology staff to ensure timely software installation
  • Maintain and update hardware peripherals functions
  • Maintain servers and data 
  • Prepare technical documentation
  • Manage two Graduate Assistants
  • Other duties as assigned

The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience working in higher education, customer service or student support, and troubleshooting; working independently and managing team projects; and the ability to communicate effectively across a diverse campus community including faculty, staff and students. 

 


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related geospatial field 
  • Two years of experience in a GIS environment 

 


Preferred Qualifications
  • Higher Education experience
  • Customer service or student support experience
  • Troubleshooting experience
  • Experience using ArcGIS Enterprise administration, ArcGIS desktop software and extensions, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, geodatabase administration on SQL Server
  • Experience managing ESRI licensing
  • Experience using 3D modeling (SketchUp and ESRI Urban CityEngine)
  • Experience using Image analysis/machine learning software
  • Master's degree in related geospatial field

 


Special Instructions

The salary range for this position is between $53,690 to $61,358.
