Job Description Summary

The position of Summer Orientation Staff is one that allows a student to make a substantial contribution to Saint Leo University and a lasting first impression on both incoming and continuing students. Summer Orientation Staff help new students and their families in making a positive transition to Saint Leo University, as well as support summer programming initiatives. Summer Orientation Staff are extremely knowledgeable about campus resources and student success strategies. Summer Orientation Staff must understand and support the goals and objectives of the New Student Orientation (NSO) program.

Job Description

This position encompasses the following responsibilities: assisting with NSO and Welcome Week planning; virtual NSO programs/webinars; OL training programs; design/develop marketing materials for the department; develop social media campaigns; update content on Leo Go; vendor relations (pricing, productions terms, cancellation/change policies); answer phones; filing/scanning of documents; inventory supplies; clean and organize storage areas; assisting with execution of virtual and onsite events related to summer programming for residential student and NSO (work orders, media requests, space reservations, event set-up and breakdown); assist with summer recruitment events; coordinate summer webinars and facilitate when applicable; check-in/move-in of new students; welcome new students, parents and families to the institution; facilitate small group activities with new students; serve as a positive role model and resource for new students and their families; lead campus tours; and complete special projects for the VP and Director.

In addition to these responsibilities, the Student Workers for Orientation/Parent Family Programs/Student Activities will also provide ancillary support for the day-to-day operations in the Mail Room, Residence Life (mattress movers, room checkers, key checkers, etc.), University Safety, Career Services, and Student Affairs Offices during peak times/special projects.

Summer Orientation Staff are required to work on campus May through the start of the fall semester for training, planning, and the execution of summer NSO Events.

  • Critical Thinking/Problem Solving: Exercise sound reasoning and analytical thinking; use knowledge, facts and data to solve problems and make decisions. Be prepared to answer the “unasked” questions; evaluate NSO.
  • Information Technology:  Using technology to solve problems and accomplish task.  Managing social media professionally, learning new software to support NSO goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
  • Current full-time, university campus student
  • Good judicial standing
  • A passion for helping others
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team, and a willingness to both lead and follow
  • Interpersonal communication skills
  • Reliability, creativity, stamina, flexibility/adaptability, and punctuality
  • Ability to relate to and work with a variety of personality types and diverse groups of people (students, parents, faculty, both professional and student staff)
  • A positive attitude and a sense of humor
  • Ability to work under limited supervision
  • Ability to work long hours (10-15hrs and/or early or late shifts)
  • Able to handle constructive criticism
  • Familiarity with Saint Leo programs and services
