Job Description Summary

This position is for the 2024-2025 school year.
The Resident Assistant (RA) position is arguably the most responsible student job on our campus. It directly supports the academic and developmental mission of the University. RAs serve to facilitate a cooperative, considerate group living/learning environment. As an RA, you articulate for students the philosophy and policies of the Office of Residence Life and Saint Leo University. You represent the Office of Residence Life and Saint Leo University by serving as the primary role model for students. The six basic RA job responsibilities include:
1. Community Development
2. Administrator
3. Team Member
4. Programmer
5. University Representative
6. Policy Enforcer

Job Description

Requirements & Responsibilities:

  • RAs are required to build communities on their floors, in their buildings and across campus.
  • Should have basic knowledge of campus to serve as a referral agent to provide residents with the support to find the appropriate campus and community resources when needed.
  • RAs should be willing to take on responsibility for helping maintain a safe and inclusive community by working in an administrative capacity, by serving on a duty rotation, programming and being a positive team member.
  • Resident Assistants must be willing to work varied hours. RAs are asked to return for training up to two and a half weeks before school begins each semester and to remain on campus several days after halls close at the end of each semester. RAs are asked to work evenings and weekend hours.
  • Climbing, standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, close visual acuity.
  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
  • Ability to move furniture with appropriate handling equipment and lift 50 pounds.
  • Class Enrollment- you must enroll in and maintain at least 12 undergraduate credit hours or 6 graduate credit hours while serving as a RA. A class load of 18 credit hours or greater must be approved in advance by the Director of Residence Life.
  • GPA Requirements- you are expected to remain in good, full-time academic standing with the University and have a minimum 2.75 semester and minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA, including the semester prior to employment.
  • Judicial Standing- you are expected to be in good judicial standing with the University at the time of hire, from hire to employment and throughout your employment.
  • Accept responsibility for understanding, adhering to, and enforcing all University and Residence Life policies. RA’s serve as role models and leaders for all students.
  • Community Living- all applicants must have lived on campus for at least two semesters prior to term of employment.
  • Must submit cover letter and career services approved resume.
