Job Description Summary

Non-FWS position. Trained and supervised Peer-Tutors, Embedded Tutors, and Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders provide academic support to the university’s enrolled, undergraduate student population. Peer-support helps meet student’s unique educational goals and minimizes learning barriers to success. Student employees may serve in a dual role as Tutor/Supplemental Instruction Leader or Tutor/Embedded Tutor with specific class assignments, to provide comprehensive student support. Both roles require separate, pre-employment training.


Job Description

Responsibilities:

All CAVE Peer-Tutors, Embedded Tutors, and SI Leaders

Attend a pre-employment orientation at the semester beginning.

Create and maintain a semester-long tutoring schedule convenient to both tutor and student need.

Keep accurate and timely records of each student session using department software.

Attend all training meetings.

Successfully complete CRLA Level 1 Tutor Training requirements.

Have thorough knowledge of college services, supports, and resources.

Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information, material, and discussions shared during the tutoring relationship.

  • Tutors provide individualized content and skill-development tutoring to individual students, or small groups.
  • Embedded Tutors work in the classroom under the instructor's guidance to help students understand course concepts and enhance student engagement. The tutor may attend all, or only certain class meeting days each week.
  • Supplemental Instruction Leaders attend a targeted class and facilitate regularly scheduled, out-of-class review sessions for targeted courses. The sessions are informal seminars in which students review notes, discuss readings, develop organizational tools, and prepare for examinations.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

A grade of B+ or higher in any selected SI course.

Have and maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or above.

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Be able to flexibly work 8-10 hours per week.

Be a model student who understands the importance and application of effective study skills and strategies.
