2022-2023 CORNELL INFORMATION SCIENCE TENURE-TRACK FACULTY SEARCH, NYC CAMPUS
Cornell University embraces diversity and seeks candidates who will contribute to a climate that supports students, faculty and staff of all identities and backgrounds. We strongly encourage individuals from underrepresented and/or marginalized identities to apply.
As part of the university's comprehensive vaccination program , all Cornell employees are required to have and provide proof of an FDA-or WHO-authorized or approved COVID-19 primary vaccination or have obtained a university-approved disability/medical or religious exemption, regardless of their role and work location.
New hires are required to provide documentation showing primary vaccination status (that is, completion of two shots of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine or one shot of the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson) before their first day of work. If a new hire's vaccination is not complete or information is not received by their start date, the first day of work will be delayed. It is possible in some cases that an offer of employment may be withdrawn.

2022-2023 CORNELL INFORMATION SCIENCE TENURE-TRACK FACULTY SEARCH, NYC CAMPUS
The Cornell University Department of Information Science (IS) in the Ann S. Bowers College of Computing
and Information Science (CIS) has tenure track and tenured faculty positions available. The IS
Department spans Cornell’s Ithaca and New York City campuses where nearly 40 faculty members are
leaders in their respective fields within Information Science's interdisciplinary structure.
While we are interested in applications from researchers in any of the broad research areas of the
department (see https://infosci.cornell.edu/research), this year we will focus on hiring candidates
whose research engages with ethical, legal, or policy issues in the context of computing and
information systems, including topics related to underserved communities. Technical approaches to
this focus area are especially welcome. Additionally, we seek to hire candidates in any area who can
contribute to advancing the department's commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Faculty hired for this NYC campus search will have their teaching and research based at Cornell Tech in
New York City. Cornell Tech is a graduate campus of Cornell University located on Roosevelt Island in
New York City. It includes the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute, a joint academic venture between
Cornell and the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. Cornell Tech's academic environment couples
fundamental research with practice, supports societal and commercial ventures alongside research and
education, and encourages tight integration across disciplines in technology, business, law, and design. In
addition to world-class academic work, a distinguishing characteristic of our research is that it engages
deeply with external communities, organizations, and industry to address real-world problems and
contexts that amplify the direct societal and commercial impact of our research. This approach is
exemplified by three hubs in Health Tech, Urban Tech, and Public Interest Tech, which bring together
researchers, practitioners, and communities. These connections support the IS department’s mission to
advance our understanding of how people and society interact with computing and information.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree by August 2023. Candidates should also have a
strong commitment to engagement outside of academia in ways that foster significant commercial or
societal impact, as aligned with the mission of the Cornell Tech campus.
Candidates should submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae (CV), a research statement, a teaching
statement, and a diversity, equity and inclusion statement. The cover letter and research statement
should highlight up to three of their most significant pieces of work for consideration.
The candidate’s statement of diversity, equity, and inclusion is an opportunity for candidates to describe
how their research, teaching, and/or service contribute to a diverse, inclusive climate. In addition, the
candidate is also welcome to incorporate these descriptions directly into their research and teaching
statements. Diversity and inclusion are a part of Cornell University's heritage. We are a recognized
employer and educator valuing AA/EEO, Protected Veterans, and Individuals with Disabilities. We also
recognize a lawful preference in employment practices for Native Americans living on or near Indian
reservations. Fostering an inclusive environment is also a core value of the Ann S. Bowers College of
Computing and Information Science. In line with Cornell’s historical commitment to be “an institution
where any person can find instruction in any study,” we seek out candidates who will create a climate
that attracts and is inclusive of all students, including students from historically underrepresented groups
and students who have overcome personal challenges. See
for more information, including suggestions for elements we look for in such statements, as well as
https://cis.cornell.edu/diversity for information about related CIS activities and resources.
The above application materials should be submitted online at
https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/22773 , along with the names of at least three people who will
provide reference letters. To ensure full consideration, complete applications (including reference letters)
should be received by December 1, 2022, but applications will be accepted until the search has
concluded. Inquiries about your application may be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
For general questions about the position or the application process, please contact the Recruiter listed in the job posting or email email@example.com .
