Job Description:

The post-doctoral associate will work full-time at the FDOT Materials Office in Gainesville to provide on-site assistance in the area of planning, designing, testing, and analysis of pavement materials and structures used for the Accelerated Pavement Testing (APT) tracks, Florida Concrete Test Road, and Florida Asphalt Test Road. The scope of work will also include developing research reports and presentations, field implementation plans including specifications, and collecting production and construction data.  The work will be performed under the general supervision and guidance of the FDOT staff.

Candidates with strong background in concrete and asphalt pavement and materials, instrumentation, statistical methods, and database applications will be considered for this position.

Background on the FDOT APT Program:

The Accelerated Pavement Testing (APT) program is housed within the State Materials Research Park in Gainesville.  The testing site consists of 8 linear test tracks.  Seven test tracks are 450 ft. by 12 ft. while an eighth track is 150 ft.  Two additional test tracks were designed to accommodate variable water table control within the supporting base and sub-grade layers.  All tracks are exposed to the environment.

Loading of the test tracks is accomplished with two Heavy Vehicle Simulators (HVS), Mark IV model and Mark VI model.  The HVS is electrically powered, fully automated, and mobile.  It can apply wheel loads between 7 and 45 kips at speeds of up to 8 mph.  This allows the simulation of up to 20 years of loading of in-service pavement systems in as little as 3 months.
