Job Description:

RESEARCH DATA MANAGEMENT 

This position is responsible for selecting and applying appropriate analytical methods to address researchers’ questions and test hypotheses. It requires expertise in database design, complex statistical methods, and algorithms. Expected projects include designing research and operational databases, conducting machine learning and statistical analyses, and developing reporting infrastructures. Additionally, the role involves providing leadership to domain experts regarding data science principles and analytical methods, prioritizing and coordinating multiple tasks to meet tight deadlines (as determined by funding agency commitments), and complying promptly with administrative requests and requirements. The position also involves offering expertise and communicating recommendations on data structures and their appropriate use to project leadership while maintaining effective interactions with internal and external data-sharing partners. 

DATA PROCESSING AND ANALYTICS 

This position will use data science and statistical software such as Python, R, and SAS to analyze and interpret research data. Additionally, it will employ other database and analytical software platforms, such as MSSQL, for developing queries and manipulating data in data lake activities. Expertise in SQL and SAS programming will be necessary to design and develop scripts for transforming data from multiple sources into primary data collection centers, making the data ready for analysis. Proficiency in Business Intelligence software such as Tableau is also important for creating interactive data systems. This role will involve interacting with experts in database modeling, machine learning, advanced analytic processes, and domain-specific knowledge. 

ADMINISTRATION OF PROJECTS 

This position will be responsible for formulating data pipelines and procedures to effectively carry out planned research projects and ensure the protection of sensitive information in compliance with University policies and all relevant state and federal laws. It will also collaborate with the IT department to develop and maintain software applications for project implementation and reporting, including performing user testing and creating technical documentation. Additionally, the role will advise project coordinators on application planning and deployment.

Minimum Requirements:

A Bachelor's Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field and five years of experience; Master's Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field and three years of experience; Doctoral Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field and one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctorate or master’s degree in computer science, statistics, information systems, biomedical informatics or related field and five years of relevant experience.
  • Five-years of experience in data management, including administrative data analysis is preferred. 
  • Diverse skills in data management, programming, and statistical methods; ability and experience working with a number of software packages (e.g., SQL, Tableau, SAS, R, Python).
  • Hands-on experience developing and documenting database standards and end user applications and knowledge of database backup, recovery, security, integrity, and SQL
  • Expertise in communicating complex data and analyses to lay or industry partners and stakeholders, in project development and reporting
  • Ability to work independently, with initiative, manage time and work with minimal supervision to analyze problems and take appropriate action to complete projects.
