Job Description:

The University of Florida (UF) Department of Geological Sciences invites applications for a full-time, tenure-accruing position in High-Temperature Geochemistry and Petrology at the Assistant Professor level. We are interested in candidates in the broadly defined areas of petrology, high-temperature geochemistry, and the study of Earth and planetary materials with research interests including, but not limited to, (1) the origin and evolution of the Solar System, Earth, the Moon, and the terrestrial planets from the deep past to the present day; (2) studies of deep interiors; (3) the formation and tectonic settings of igneous rocks; (4) stable and radiogenic isotope systematics, including geochemistry and geochronology and; (5) solid-state metamorphic reactions. The successful candidate will demonstrate potential to initiate a strong externally funded research program that includes mentoring graduate students and teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in their area of expertise. We are particularly interested in candidates with potential to utilize and enhance existing facilities and engage in interdisciplinary research with groups in the department, college, and/or university.

The Department of Geological Sciences (https://geology.ufl.edu/ ) resides in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and includes faculty with a wide range of expertise in solid Earth and planetary processes. Available resources in the Department of Geological Sciences include state-of-the-art facilities including MC-ICP-MS, LA-ICP-MS, noble gas and stable isotope mass spectrometers, piston cylinders and controlled-atmosphere furnace, clean laboratory, SEM with SDD-EDS, XRD, and XRF.
