Job Description:

The Department of Chemistry is seeking an End User Computing Specialist II. This position serves as the primary point of contact for end users in the Department of Chemistry. The End User Computing Specialist II will diagnose and resolve the unit's simple or complex technical issues daily. The position is team-oriented and requires the ability to document clear procedures and workflows for routine or specialized tasks for IT Professionals and end users within the department. This position will use a host of UF Information Technology and department resources to identify, prioritize, escalate, resolve, document, and communicate updates to end users, colleagues, and superiors. The End User Computing Specialist II is expected to improve established service level agreements (SLAs) and service level objectives for effectiveness (SLOs), to deliver excellent IT support services to the department consistently. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Build, configure, deploy, and maintain operating system images and software using a centrally managed OS deployment solution (ie. System Center Configuration Manager, SCCM) in support of the Department priorities. Support end-users and endpoints in a Microsoft Active Directory(AD) networking environment. Manage AD Users and Groups; create, test, modify, edit, apply Group Policy Objects (GPO) in collaboration with Tier-2 UF IT Administrators; provision, configure and troubleshoot email accounts and email applications and mailing lists. Install, troubleshoot, repair, and configure a wide variety of endpoints including desktops, mobile devices, embedded devices, scientific instruments, and Internet-of-things (IOT) devices.   

Accurately and effectively use IT Service Management (ITSM) best practices to provide timely IT customer service for a wide variety of software and hardware technology requests. Daily prioritize service requests and tasks, communicate and collaborate well with teammates on service requests, team goals and IT projects. A strong focus on service to end users and teamwork with the intent to meet and exceed expectations.
Document procedures and workflows for essential job tasks. Identify and develop or compile written/illustrative diagrams, video recordings or other self-help instructions, user guides, and FAQs for repetitive end user tasks and service requests. Collaborate with the IT department in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS IT) to effectively support Chemistry end users. Update the status of service requests regularly. Participate in relevant UFIT community workshops, meetings, and forums. Pursue and complete IT training relevant the job that improves professional skills, service to the department, and create opportunities for future career growth.

Assist with other tasks not explicitly defined in this position description, but assigned by the IT Manager as an essential task in support of the Chemistry Department’s priorities, which are teaching, service and research.

Expected Salary:

$19.25 - $21.50 per hour; commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Associate’s degree and two years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Three years of appropriate experience, college course work or vocational/technical training/certifications applicable to essential job functions.

Very good verbal, written, and active listening skills. Clear and concise communication.

Able to demonstrate critical and analytical problem-solving skills.

Exceptional customer service skills and professionalism, must work well in a team environment.

Self-motivated and able to work independently.

Tenacity in completing tasks and service requests is a plus.

Professional attire and positive attitude required.

Experience using a help desk ticketing system.

Technical knowledge of building operating system (OS) images and OS deployment using SCCM. Troubleshooting and repairing computer hardware and client/server operating systems such as Windows, Linux, Mac OS.  Ability to work in a heterogeneous operating system environment with optional Microsoft Active Directory integration. Ability to run PowerShell commands, write/adopt scripts for both Windows and Linux operating systems.

Knowledge and use of remote access technology to support end users or remotely manage systems - i.e., Microsoft Remote Desktop, VNC, Teams, Zoom, etc. Knowledge and use of secure networking technologies (VPN, NTLMv2, Kerberos, SSH, SCP). Knowledge of university policies, standards, and best practices - particularly mobile device standards, end-point management, and cybersecurity policies. Installation, configuration, licensing of commonly used desktop applications (i.e. Microsoft O365 Suite of Apps) and Open Source applications (i.e. Open Office).

Working knowledge of diagnostic utilities. Strong documentation skills. The following certifications are plus: Microsoft Endpoint Management certifications, A+, Network+, Server+, Linux+. ITIL/ITSM. MCP, Power Platform, PowerShell and Python scripting, or any other software development languages.
