Job Description:

Maintain, repair, replace, and install electrical systems and their components determining conditions and malfunctions

  • Install maintain, troubleshoot (basic), and repair electrical motors, generators, distribution systems, control systems, and related electrical and mechanical equipment involving voltages up to 480V AC or DC
  • Maintain, alter, and repair power appliances, light machinery, lighting fixtures, and electrical circuits in existing facilities; install fixtures and appliances in new construction
  • Maintain, alter, and repair existing wiring; install conduit for electrical systems in accordance with the  National Electric Code (NEC); assist in pulling cable for primary systems; and install new wiring
  • Install conduit and other wiring raceways
  • Recommend and complete preventive maintenance 

Analyzes blueprints, schematics, and drawings of electrical systems for the purpose of repairing or determining the efficient installation of new or upgraded systems.

Responsible for general administrative functions

  • Input and process work order requests utilizing web-based work order management system.
  • Record detailed descriptions of work performed and notate preventative maintenance information
  • Monitor building automation systems.
  • Assist with training, continuing education, and guidance for staff on position expectations, safe use of equipment; ensure staff follow prescribed policies and procedures.

Assist in maintaining inventory of materials, supplies, tools and/or equipment throughout area of responsibility; ensure organized workstations and storage closets with necessary materials as directed

  • Perform general cleaning duties after the completion of maintenance tasks within buildings or properties.
  • Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment and keep parts and supplies in order.

Perform other duties as assigned, including special tasks or projects.

  • Operation of state vehicles.

 

Expected Salary:

$25.00- $28.00 per hour

Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) and completion of three years (or equivalent) of an electrical apprenticeship program; or possess a journeyman competency card or license and three years of appropriate experience in electrical work; appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Six years as an electrician or recognized trade
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship program or passed journeyman examination
  • Working knowledge of Florida State Building codes and other relevant codes and standards
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code
  • Knowledge in electrical systems, equipment, appliances, and electrical circuits

SKILLS:

  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and Revit
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers and basic software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Demonstrated communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to communicate with various levels of staff
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, professionalism, dependability, and timeliness
  • Demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills  

ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read blueprints and schematic drawings
  • Ability to use high reach equipment and work overhead
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a multi-faceted environment

   

Special Instructions to Applicants:
  • Regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 08:00 a.m. to 04:30 p.m. Some overtime outside of regularly scheduled work hours will be required especially during peak times.
  • This position may serve in an on-call rotation for handling emergencies for campus housing and/or areas of responsibility
