Job Description:

Responsible for performing hotel housekeeping tasks and leading a team of hotel housekeepers in the performance of duties and responsibilities

  • Assist to organize, assign, and manage workflow so that routine and special cleaning tasks are handled in a timely and efficient manner; check daily occupancy for current and upcoming events in order to plan and schedule cleaning tasks and assignments accordingly; ensure housekeeping needs are met in the event of a staff shortage
  • Clean occupied and vacant rooms; perform sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing and buffing of floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets; dust and clean furniture and other surfaces; clean and sanitize bathrooms; clean windows; removal and disposal of trash; make beds; and replace light bulbs
  • Clean common areas including lobby, stairs, elevators, and buffet areas; remove and dispose of trash
  • Replenish courtesy personal amenities and towels
  • Be alert to and correct or report any deficiencies regarding maintenance or overall presentation observed in any room or adjacent space; record observation and report to supervisor and/or complete maintenance work order or report to building management as appropriate

Assist with overall workflow coordination and quality assurance

  • Meet daily with supervisor to discuss special needs, tasks, and projects requiring follow up
  • Assist with daily inspections of the facility as directed to check for cleanliness and overall condition; assign or perform special cleaning tasks as necessary
  • Respond appropriately to information and requests received via work orders and building reports from staff and customers to determine the priority of tasks to be performed; provide follow-up to ensure issues are resolved in a timely manner
  • Assist with coordination and completion of special cleaning tasks in facility during academic calendar or holiday breaks
  • Assist in establishing and ensuring compliance with high quality standards for all work performed (work performed by internal staff as well as contracted vendors)

Provide general support for hotel housekeeping and administrative support as needed

  • Assist in maintaining inventory of cleaning materials, tools, equipment, and supplies; inform supervisor of low inventory
  • Assist with onboarding new housekeeping staff
  • Identify staff issues observed and/or reported, document issues, and provide information to supervisor for follow up as needed
  • Inspect housekeeping equipment on a regular basis to ensure proper maintenance and upkeep; provide information to supervisor in a timely manner regarding maintenance or other necessary follow-up; assist in maintaining up-to-date equipment usage, care, and maintenance records
  • Clean and maintain tools and equipment as directed; clean, organize, and maintain storage areas as directed
  • Assist with orientation and training for members of housekeeping team; instruct team members in proper and safe cleaning procedures, processes, techniques and methods, proper and safe use of equipment, and safe and appropriate use of cleaning products and materials
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, OSHA, ADA and other relevant regulations at all times

Perform laundry cleaning and preparation tasks

  • Collect dirty linens and transport to laundry service area
  • Operate industrial laundry washing, drying and ironing equipment
  • Clean, inspect, iron and fold clean linens and towels; notify supervisor of damage or losses

Regularly "deep-clean" hotel rooms (as occupancy allows); move furniture to clean in unexposed areas; clean sliding glass doors and balcony areas

Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting with cleaning tasks or projects

Expected Salary:

$17.25/HR

Minimum Requirements:

Completion of ninth grade and two (2) years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge and experience in all aspects of building cleaning including but not limited to floor care, wall surfaces, windows, and general cleaning of offices, restrooms, and food areas
  • Aware of up-to-date cleaning methods, products, and materials including chemicals
  • Handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Proficiency with computers and basic software applications
  • Communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Customer service skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Function effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions

Normal Work Schedule:


  • Routine housekeeping services are provided as follows: Friday – Thursday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm; Must work a rotating schedule as required to meet department needs;
  • JWRU building is open 7 days per week and some holidays; employees must work weekends on an alternating schedule and holidays as needed
  • JWRU Custodial staff are ‘essential staff’ and may be called to work if the JWRU is selected as an emergency shelter or essential staff are deemed necessary.

Criminal background check is required.
