The Oxford Department of International Development, Queen Elizabeth House, 3 Mansfield Road, Oxford
Grade 10: £55,750 - £64,605 with a discretionary range to £70,579 p.a.
The Oxford Department of International Development wishes to make an appointment to the fixed-term position of Young Lives Director. Significant new funding has recently been secured from DFID to deliver the ‘Young Lives at Work’ programme, conducting two additional survey rounds (Rounds 6 and 7) and delivering exceptional insights on the trajectories and outcomes of young people from diverse social and economic groups and in diverse settings as they transition through childhood, adolescence and youth into early adulthood. The Director will report to the Head of Department and will lead the Young Lives team across all areas of this unique longitudinal mixed methods study.
As a recognised authority in their field, the Director will provide intellectual leadership and have responsibility for the development of the strategic direction and delivery of Young Lives. S/he will represent the study in international academic, policy and donor settings, and assume primary responsibility for fund raising and management of staff performance.
This role is being advertised as a full-time opportunity but we would be happy to receive applications from people who are looking for part-time hours (up to 60% FTE) depending on the appointee’s expertise and circumstances.
You will hold a relevant PhD/DPhil with significant post-qualification research experience, be a recognised international authority within your specialism, and have an established international publication record. Knowledge and expertise to lead research programmes and develop new avenues of research and understanding in your field is also essential. You will also have experience of leading and managing a research team, the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of partner institutions and a successful record in accomplishment of attracting and managing significant research income.
The post is fixed-term until 31 August 2025, dependent on Young Lives meeting a fundraising commitment by September 2022, as set out in the Accountable Grant with DFID.
You will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application.
Only applications received before 12.00 noon on Monday 6 April 2020 can be considered.
Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.
