About the role
Established in 1948 our counselling service was one of the first for a University in the UK and we have a heritage of pioneering Student Wellbeing. Our Wellbeing Practitioner position gives you the chance to empower students to manage and enhance their emotional and psychological health so as to fulfil their academic potential. There are many challenges associated with the transition to and through university life – it would be your role to help support and equip students through these progressions.
You would assess the needs of students who contact the service and consider the most appropriate option(s) to meet these needs. This may include offering short term counselling where appropriate or sign post to other resources when suitable, as well as offering a range of psycho-therapeutic interventions to both proactively address known issues and also to effectively meet the needs of students.
About you
Being qualified as a Counsellor or Psychotherapist you have experience of short term psycho-therapeutic modality and assessing and managing risk which may include risk to self or others.
You will be an excellent communicator and understand the issues that impact students. You will have knowledge of common mental health conditions and be experienced in facilitating psycho-educational groups.
