The team
The Student Wellbeing, Disability and Inclusion Service provides high quality support to students. Comprising of two teams: Wellbeing & Welfare and Disability & Inclusion, providing holistic clinical and solution focused support to enable students to engage successfully with their studies. The service offers a multi-disciplinary approach to student wellbeing, working collaboratively to achieve excellent outcomes for students.
The role
The post-holder will provide clinical leadership within the Wellbeing, Disability and Inclusion Service. They will work with the Leadership Team to maintain and develop excellent relationships and referral pathways across York St John University. The post-holder will work directly with students with the most complex needs, providing excellent clinical care. In addition, the successful candidate will support and lead complex case management across the service.
The role also requires that the post-holder will develop and maintain relationships with external mental health services, such as the local crisis team, liaison psychiatry, police and specialist voluntary sector providers. The post-holder will be the designated clinical project manager for strategic change projects, including the implementation of the Mental Health Charter, Disabled Student Commitment, UUK’s Suicide Safer Universities Framework and implementation of trusted contacts.
Required skills and experience
With a background of working in mental health and a relevant mental health qualification (for example, Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Mental Health Social Worker) the successful candidate will have experience of delivering effective work with people within the field of mental health practice. They will demonstrate excellent knowledge of issues related to the mental health of students and/or young people – including the assessment and management of clinical risk, crisis management, mental health assessments and one-to-one therapeutic interventions and counselling approaches.
They will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with the ability to use initiative to resolve complex problems. The post-holder will have experience of responding quickly, calmly and appropriately in a fast-paced environment with high levels of risk and complexity.
The successful candidate will be joining the University at an exciting time, as we implement service developments to further improve the student experience.
