We have an exciting opportunity to join us at the WIN Preclinical MRI Group as the WIN Preclinical MRI Group Lab Manager. In this role you will support a multidisciplinary group carrying out studies using high-field brain MRI in rodents – primarily mice and rats – alongside a range of related techniques including tissue staining, microscopy, behaviour, and transcriptomics. Your primary role will be to ensure that the lab runs effectively and to support others to run preclinical MRI experiments. You will work in a vibrant, diverse, and multidisciplinary department with access to state-of-the art facilities. You will be part of the wider WIN Core Staff team and have the opportunity to develop professional skills in project and lab management.
Essential Criteria
- Undergraduate degree in neuroscience or a related area.
- Previous exposure to laboratory environments.
- Experience with molecular biology techniques, such as genotyping, protein extraction and Western blots.
- Hands on experience with rodent experiments, such as perfusion techniques and protocols and/or intubation or small surgeries.
- Good communication skills and ability to write clearly, good planning and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage time and prioritise resources effectively in order to deliver multiple projects in parallel.
Desirable Criteria
- UK home office personal licence for conducting rodent experiments.
- Experience with preclinical MRI.
- Experience breeding and maintaining transgenic lines.
- Experience in training (even in an informal setting) new users in experimental practices.
- Experience in conducting behavioural studies in rodents, intubation and/or small surgeries in rodents.
- Experience with histological staining, including immunohistochemistry and/or immunofluorescence.
- Experience with using behaviour rigs and/or recording rooms, including operant boxes and associated software.
- Experience with electrophysiology and/or optogenetics.
- Experience with advanced microscopy techniques such as confocal microscopy, electron microscopy, CLARITY or polarised light imaging.
- Experience working co-operatively, such as sharing laboratory and research resources.
