Job Purpose

As a senior member of the Management, the Vice President of Investment will collaborate closely with the Senior Vice President, Finance & Investment to establish and execute a comprehensive investment strategy, provide leadership in the continued development of a best-in-class investment office, and communicate effectively with stakeholders across the University,

Key Roles & Responsibilitie s

Strategic Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the formulation and implementation of the university's strategy, as well as annual business plans.
  • Contribute to the formulation of the university's policies and procedures, adhering to the overall business objectives of the university.
  • Contribute to the development and management of the university's budget.
  • Lead the formulation and implementation of the Division's strategy, as well as annual business plans.
  • Lead the formulation of the Division's policies and procedures, adhering to the overall business objectives of the university, ensuring they promote leading practices and excellence.
  • Lead the development and management of the Division's budget and ensure the appropriate budgetary targets are met

Operational Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, vision and strategic direction to the University’s strategic financial investment program as well as monitoring investment policy and investment reporting to support decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Develop and implement the Business development Strategy, and contribute towards the formulation and implementation of overall business strategies and plans, which enable the achievement of the University’s mission and objectives.
  • Work closely with the Senior Vice President, Finance & Investment to implement the investment strategy.
  • Coordinate University partnership management, including relationship and performance management of key operational partners and Management Resources.
  • Maintain liaison with industry, organizations, and individuals in the academic community to facilitate business transactions of the University and to enhance the accessibility of community resources to students.
  • Source and maintain investment opportunities that will provide a strategic advantage to the University’s investment portfolio
  • Conduct thorough due diligence on the prospective opportunities including analysis of investment strategy, process, organization, portfolio positions and performance
  • Facilitate the development of appropriate performance improvement plans, and oversee their implementation.
  • Ensure sound financial planning through the annual budgeting process, comprehensive financial reporting to inform management and support their decision making and accurate accounting as per internal and statutory controls, receipt and disbursement of funds, asset management and endowment management.
  • Ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial information and reporting in compliance with applicable University policies and accounting principles and standards.
  • Monitor and enhance the internal control system and ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of internal control system in the University.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the university strategic vision is communicated effectively.
  • Facilitate detailed discussion of detailed aspects of roles, relationships, timelines, deliverables, performance metrics, and budget between university and partner(s).
  • Provide support to university leadership to identify strategic partners that will fund university initiatives, support students, or with whom the university can collaborate on.
  • Create a network of value added partners for the university in different sectors within the area of expertise to promote University and its programs.
  • Critically review existing partnerships for effectiveness in attaining the university goals; recommend improvements and/or corrective actions.
  • Ensure adherence to the University's information security policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly.
  • Ensure coordination with other departments to facilitate the accomplishment of tasks and responsibilities, as and when needed.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by Line Manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provide coaching, guidance and mentoring as required to enhance the internal capabilities of the team and ensure the achievement of established objectives and plans.
  • Recommend appropriate training courses as per the pre-determined training needs, evaluate their effectiveness, and monitor their results.
  • Carry out performance appraisals for subordinates according to planned schedules and recommend necessary actions as per the applied practices.
  • Conduct periodic meetings with subordinates to ensure that priorities are clear and workflow is running smoothly.
  • Follow-up on employees' administrative affairs such as vacations, leaves and other administrative and related affairs

Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business or related field with CFA or related certifications preferred (Master’s Degree is preferable).

Required Experience

  • A minimum of 16 years of relevant experience, preferably in higher education of which 8 years should have been a progressively responsible experience in investment management at a senior level position.
