The Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for the position of

UNIVERSITY LECTURER IN SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY

for a fixed term appointment beginning on 1 October 2022 or as agreed (but no later than 1 January 2023), and ending on 31 July 2026.

The duties of the university lecturer will include providing teaching in accordance with the anthropology requirements of the BA and MA Programmes in Society and Change, MA Programme in Contemporary Societies, and Doctoral Programme in Political, Societal and Regional Changes, supervising and examining theses and dissertations, and conducting research. The person appointed to the position is also required to contribute towards the administrative work of the unit.

QUALIFICATIONS

The appointee shall hold an applicable doctoral degree and the ability to provide high-quality teaching based on research and to supervise theses and dissertations. The degree requirement must be met by the end of the application deadline. The curriculum includes courses taught in Finnish and English, and in order to successfully attend to the duties of the position, the appointee must have good knowledge of both languages. Successful candidate will be expected to work with PhD researchers and to teach the doctoral seminar, and must demonstrate the ability to teach at that level.

When assessing the qualifications of each applicant, attention will be paid to:

  • Scholarly publications
  • Research activity
  • Other scholarly activities
  • Teaching experience, supervision of theses and dissertations and other pedagogical merits, pedagogical training, the development of teaching, the production of learning material
  • The applicant's teaching demonstration
  • The interview with the applicant.

In addition, we give particular consideration to proactive and innovative research pursuits, international publications and research networks, versatile knowledge of research methods and the ability to teach them, and success in the acquisition of external research funding.

The annual gross salary range will be approx. €45,000–63,000, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience.
