Your personal sphere of influence:
A PhD position is available in the group of Prof. Cichna-Markl, at the Institute of Analytical Chemistry, at the Faculty of Chemistry, starting July 2026. The goal is the development, optimization and validation of DNA based methods for the authentication of food. The project combines state-of-the-art molecular biology, analytical chemistry and bionformatics approaches. Information about the group can be found at: Cichna Lab.
The employment duration is 3 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 3 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration. An extension to a total maximum of 4 years is possible if the employee proves themselves and makes appropriate work progress.
Your future tasks:
You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:
- You are involved in research projects and scientific studies in the area of analytical chemistry.
- We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
- You work on your dissertation and its completion.
- You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
- You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.
This is part of your personality:
- Completed Master's degree or diploma, in the field chemistry, preferably with a focus on analytical chemistry or food chemistry or an equivalent qualification
- Experience in the area food analysis
- Initial experience in scientific writing
- Didactic competences / experience with e-learning
- IT user skills: MS Office
- Desireable knowledge: DNA barcoding, primer design, sequencing
- Excellent command of written and spoken English (B2), futhermore very good command of German (B2)
- You should be a team player with high social skills
