Your personal sphere of play:

Your future position is at the Department for Slavic Studies, one of the world's largest research and teaching centres for Slavic languages, literatures and cultures. The institute represents all East, South and West Slavic languages and literatures in teaching and research.

The vacant position in the field of South Slavic studies is to be filled for six years, with the earliest start date being March 1, 2024. Scope of employment: 20 hours/week.

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • You will build an independent research profile in the field of South Slavic literature and cultural studies.
  • You participate in research projects and scientific studies in the field of South Slavic studies.
  • You publish internationally and give lectures.
  • You apply for projects and raise third-party funds.
  • You prepare and complete a publication-ready habilitation.
  • You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement, supervise your students and work on teaching projects.
  • You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.
  • You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.

This is part of your personality:

  • Outstanding dissertation in Slavic studies / literary studies with a South Slavic focus.
  • Proven research interest in the field of South Slavic literature and cultural studies. Additional knowledge in the field of film and media studies is desirable.
  • Research competence and initiative proven through international publications in peer-reviewed media.
  • International lecturing activities.
  • Experience in participating in research projects.
  • Didactic skills and experience in university teaching (e-learning and new forms of teaching "blended learning").
  • High level of written and oral communication skills and very good knowledge of written and spoken German, English, Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian. Good knowledge of Bulgarian and/or Slovenian is an advantage.
  • International experience and knowledge of university procedures and structures are desirable.

Fixed-term contract and fair salary: The basic salary of EUR 4,351.90 (14 times a year, full-time basis) for a period of 6 years / 72 months increases if we can credit professional experience.
