We are looking for a Senior Technician to join the UK Vegetable Genebank (UKVGB) project team and who will provide day to day operational management of the project and its key facilities located in Warwick Genetic Resources Unit (WGRU) at Wellesbourne.

The UKVGB manages an internationally significant collection of vegetable seed samples and has an important role in conserving crop genetic diversity in the UK. Working within the project team, you will have oversight and hands on involvement in the key conservation activities including the regeneration of seed samples and the handling and packaging of seed.

You will maintain and input data on the samples in the collection using the project database. You will also be responsible for ensuring the upkeep of the facilities the project depends on, liaising with colleagues within the University and with external maintenance contractors as appropriate.

You will line manage the two other technicians in the UKVGB team.

We’re looking for someone with NVQ level 4, or HNC/HND or education to A level standard or equivalent in a relevant science subject. Supervisory/management training or experience is essential, particularly including projects involving large numbers of samples. Attention to detail is key, as the ability to manage and track samples using spreadsheets and databases.
