Applications are invited for a Guaranteed Hours (GH) contract as a tutor in Animation.

  • What’s Up Doc: Introducing Animation Studies (DESI08088) (Semester 1) - Open ended
  • Animation 3: Issues of Representation (DESI10100) (Semester 2) - fixed term until May 2023
  • Animation 2C: Documentary (DESI08075) (Semester 2) - fixed term until May 2023

The Opportunity:

The Animation department is looking for a GH tutor experienced in the teaching of both theory/history and practical courses in a variety of animation techniques and genres to fill a tutoring position across three courses. In semester 1, 2022/23, the tutor will run several seminars on a large animation history/theory course, facilitating discussions and marking written assessments. In semester 2, 2022/23 the tutor will support students on two courses which combine theory and written work with animation practice. They will lead seminars and small crit sessions and tutorials to support the students in developing their short, animated films. The tutor will work across year groups, supporting the learning across an established programme within the School of Design at Edinburgh College of Art.

The hours for DESI08088 are open ended GH; the hours for DESI10100 and DESI08075 are fixed term, from August 2022 until May 2024.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Experience of teaching animation theory and history and assessing critical writing.
  • Experience of a variety of animation methods and practice to support UG students.
  • Knowledge of key issues and debates around representation in animation, both historic and contemporary.
  • Experience of working and teaching in animated documentary.
