The Manchester School of Architecture is ranked 5th in the QS world university rankings and enjoys the unique context of being a collaboration between Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester. It is one of the largest Schools of Architecture in the country with over 1200 students (typically representing some 85 countries) and over 150 staff from diverse backgrounds. It is proud to retain both its quality and sense of community despite its size.
The School is characterised by excellence, ambition, boldness, inquisitiveness, innovation, and social justice and responsibility. These facets generate a unique blend and balance between research led teaching, impressive and relevant research outputs (84% of research activity is world leading or internationally excellent), and extensive professional industry links, all of which encourage our students to cultivate their own unique approach to architecture and their careers thereafter. Imagination, we take it seriously! The School was responsible for 3 of the 9 impact case studies returned with Art & Design in the last REF, namely; “A neighbourhood model for age-friendly policy and practice: engaged design and research for urban ageing”, “Heritage action: discovering, preserving and celebrating post-war modern architecture”, and “Complex sustainable futures: disruptive technologies in urban transformation”.
We are looking to appoint a Tutor in Landscape Architecture to join our team of experienced academics. Applications are welcomed from graduates of a Landscape Institute-accredited post-graduate course (or international equivalent).
The successful candidate will contribute to studio and landscape architecture professional practice teaching and assessment, as well as other areas of the course such as landscape detailing, planting design, or representation. The role will also include unit delivery, liaising with colleagues from other courses and disciplines, as well as technical and workshop teams. You may also be required to provide support and mentoring to individual students.
Excellent spatial design and communication skills are a requirement. Experience teaching in higher education and chartership of the Landscape Institute or equivalent are desirable.
Day of work: Typically, Monday or Tuesday, but some flexibility may be required occasionally.
To apply, please click on the 'Apply' button above to submit your CV and cover letter. For informal enquiries, please contact Dawn Parke (Interim Programme Lead for the Master of Landscape Architecture Programme) at [email protected] .
Manchester Met University is committed to creating an intentionally inclusive culture of belonging that promotes equity and celebrates diversity. We understand the importance of having a diverse workforce and the benefits it can bring to ensuring diversity of thought and innovation in everything we do. We, therefore, encourage applications from our local and international communities, in particular people from ethnic minority groups, disabled people and people who identify as LGBTQIA+.
