About Us

We're the UK's leading charity for Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.

Right now, an estimated 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of and for which there is no known cure. Because of the stigma and misunderstanding surrounding these diseases, thousands of people are suffering in silence. But they're not alone. We're here for them. And we're not going anywhere until we've beaten Crohn's and Colitis for good.

We’re now looking for a Trustee to join our Board on a voluntary basis for a three year term.

You will have the opportunity to renew your tenure twice meaning a maximum period of nine years.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a high-calibre individual with experience of senior strategic leadership in a research environment or national funding body to play a critical part in the good management of our charitable organisation.

Joining us as a Trustee will be a remarkable experience both in terms of the expertise you will bring as well as what you will gain from us. Experience with our Board will support your portfolio, as well as offer the chance to give back to our community and support healthcare on a nationwide basis.

The Role

As a Trustee, you will join our Board and take responsibility for our research activity.

Acting as the chair of our Board’s Research Strategy and Funding Committee, you will provide insight and advice on the development and implementation of our research strategy. You will make funding decisions and advise on our priorities and grant management processes.

As part of our Board, you will also ensure the effective and efficient administration and financial stability of our charity as well as seeing we comply with charity law.

Time Commitment

Board meetings are held five times per year. Two of these meetings will be face-to-face, the remainder are held remotely.

The Research Strategy and Funding Committee meet a further two or three times per year.

About You

To be considered as a Trustee, you will need:

- Experience operating at a senior strategic leadership level in a research environment or national funding body
- Experience of external representation, building new connections and managing a range of senior stakeholders across different sectors
- Experience leading the formulation and delivery of an organisational or funding strategy
- Knowledge of the research environment
- An understanding of governance issues
- An empathetic interest in our work, strategic objectives and cause
- Strong networking, interpersonal and relationship building skills

Other organisations may call this role Board Member, Charity Trustee, Director, Charity Director, Member of the Board, or Voluntary Trustee.
