Summary of the role

The Faculty wishes to recruit a Trial Manager (Post-doctoral Research Fellow) to support the work of Professor Anne Corbett. This post is available from January 2023. The successful applicant will act as Trial Manager for the newly funded BEACON trial of an online brain training app for people with Long Covid. They will also support a second ongoing remote clinical trial, VitaMIND, which is testing the impact of vitamin D supplementation on cognition in older adults. There will be further opportunities for involvement in other related studies within the wider research team portfolio across the cognitive health and ageing field.

The post will be an integral member of the dynamic PROTECT Research Team which supports a varied portfolio of studies in digital cognitive health research. The role will include working with large remote clinical trials and studies, specifically the BEACON and VitaMIND trials. It will involve taking responsibility for the setup, management and day-to-day running of the trials in compliance with Good Clinical Practice. This will involve close working with senior investigators, web/app developers and research coordinators. The post also offers the opportunity to build on your own ideas within the research portfolio, to publish academic papers and to contribute to the onward development of team’s research portfolio.

The PROTECT research team works remotely and encourages a flexible approach to work. This post is available as a fully remote arrangement and we encourage applications from candidates regardless of location within the UK.

About you

The successful applicant will have good working knowledge of clinical trial processes including ethical approvals, trial management documentation and standard research process. You will need a good understanding of Good Clinical Practice and how to apply this within a research setting. The post will require excellent project management skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams effectively. We expect the post-holder to be able to collate and present complex information orally, in writing and electronically and to prepare communications for external bodies. Some experience of working within digital development and of managing budgets is desirable but not essential.

Applicants will be educated to first degree level and possess a PhD (or nearing completion) in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within the established research programmes. Applicants will have good working knowledge of clinical trial management and will show high levels of competence working with research governance needs.
