The Office for Translational Research (OTR)'s mission is to convert ideas from research, emanating from the University of Cambridge and associated hospitals, into the development of new products and approaches to treatment or prevention of human disease and illness. These may include devices, surgery, radiology, vaccines, drugs, digital health and nanomedicine as well as gene and cell therapies.
The OTR provides a complete translational project life cycle support and the post holder will be expected to be involved with all stages. At the pre-award stage, we evaluate where the project sits in the translational path and define the best way to move it forward. This involves connecting to the right expertise and structures depending on each projects. We are then in a position to identify and advise the right funding scheme with the right partners at the right time for the project. The OTR then provide advice and project management to constitute a competitive funding application by helping to develop aspects of the application that PI may have less experience with, such as costing and developing a sound project plan. During the award, the OTR ensure that milestones are met on time and within budget and liaise with the funder.
These significant awards usually have several work packages spanning different departments or institutions and often involves clinical trials. They may be funded by UKRI, charities, NIHR or in collaboration with industry. The post holder will be expected to play a major role in the relationship with all of these as well as managing and expanding a portfolio of funded translational projects.
This senior role within the team will play a crucial part in delivering on all of these ambitions.
We are hence seeking a proactive and solution-focussed experienced individual. Applicants will have a post-graduate degree in the medical or life sciences and direct experience of translational science developing therapeutics and/or medical devices and/or diagnostics, preferably acquired in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry. Strong programme & project management as well as interpersonal skills are essential. Applicants also need to be able to demonstrate a track record of building and maintaining effective working relationships, especially those that cross institutional and cultural boundaries.
The post holder will be an employee of the University of Cambridge and be a member of the School of Clinical Medicine.
Informal enquiries may be directed via email to Dr Anita Marguerie, Head of OTR ([email protected] )
