Imperial College is co-locating at the Michael Uren Hub in White City major medical technology research translation initiatives from across the institution. As part of this, the MedTech Accelerator, part of the MedTechONE programme, is a new initiative whose mission is to accelerate medical technologies research and development at Imperial “from bench to bedside”. The Translation Project Manager will be responsible for the delivery of a portfolio of MedTech Projects selected for support, as part of the MedTech Accelerator.

Key duties and responsibilities

An experienced and credible project manager in the MedTech sector, you will provide a project management function to selected MedTech Projects. You will be responsible for establishing the projects’ Development Action plans, in line with guidance provided by the Accelerator panel of experts. You will become a project team member, working closely with the researchers and principal investigators, and oversee the successful delivery of those projects.

An enthusiastic individual, your will manage project resources, provide support to grant writing, and oversee the generation of design documentation, which you will contribute to writing, as well as other quality related documentation, under the framework of Imperial College Quality Management System. You will also be responsible for the day-to-day management of external contracts, such as collaboration agreements, prototype manufacture and testing, also interfacing with regulatory consultants, in line with all Imperial College and Accelerator processes.

A key member of the Accelerator team, you will be expected to contribute to the Accelerator model, liaising with operational colleagues in the MedTech area and in other accelerator programmes, in the Enterprise division and in other departments, making recommendations for improvement to the Head of the MedTech Accelerator. You will be involved in the achievement of the Accelerator KPIs and in the drawing together of regular and funding body reports.

This is an exciting and dynamic role, that will provide the recipient with an opportunity to be directly involved in the delivery of highly innovative MedTech projects at Imperial College, with interactions across the MedTech translation ecosystem at Imperial College.

Essential requirements

  • Product development management experience in one of multiple of the following sectors: cardiovascular, diagnostics, rehabilitation technologies, prosthetics/orthotics, orthopaedics, Global health/Appropriate Technologies/Frugal innovation
  • Experience in budget management and ensuring successful delivery of outputs, engaging and directing complex groups of suppliers, colleagues, and collaborators and reporting formally
  • Experience working within an ISO13485 quality management system for complex medical devices, including experience with risk management to ISO14971.
  • Experience of working in the area of innovation/Research and Development in MedTech at a level suitable to facilitate credibility and positive relations with staff, students, and external partners,
  • Proven experience of product research and development, in collaboration with academics
  • Proven experience of securing, or helping others to secure funding for translational development /innovation
