Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Property Rights and Land/Housing Policy in the Department of Real Estate and Construction (Ref. 504469), to commence on January 1, 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post will be on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.
The Department of Real Estate and Construction (REC) enjoys a world-class reputation for its research and teaching in real estate development and management. It runs long established, highly successful, and very competitive professional education programmes, with alumni holding senior positions in both the public and private sectors. Its academic staff has a wide spectrum of expertise, covering virtually every aspect of land, construction, real estate, and conservation, with a growing interest in digital technologies and data analytics. REC, being part of the Faculty of Architecture, contributes to the world ranking of 14th under the QS University Subject Rankings 2021 in the area of Built Environment. Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Real Estate, Urban Studies or cognate fields, with preference to those having a track record of research in property rights and land / housing policy. They should also have a demonstrated potential to contribute to the Ronald Coase Centre for Property Rights Research. The appointee is expected to teach and lead courses that involve the application of property rights theory to land and housing markets at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The undergraduate and taught Masters programmes offered by the Department are accredited by a number of international and local professional bodies. Experience in teaching a profession-oriented or studio-based programme would be an advantage. He/She is also expected to develop his/her research in the context of HKUrbanLabs, the research arm of the Faculty of Architecture. The labs draw together the research and outreach energies of scholars of architecture, conservation, construction management, housing, landscape, planning, real estate, surveying, transport, urban design, urban economics and urban studies. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and/or University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
