£26396 to £32348 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our diverse team which is internationally renowned for research in Microwave Processing of materials. We are looking for an enthusiastic, practically minded individual to contribute to the successful delivery of a variety of exciting research projects. 

Our research is centred around the development of microwave-heating based platform technologies with the potential to access a wide range of markets across sectors as diverse as steelmaking, nuclear, food, catalysis and energy. You will assist with test work on a variety of evolving process rigs across a range of applications which feed directly into both pilot plant and industrial scale work across a range of end-users.

The Role  

Provide technical support in the operation of bespoke microwave process rigs and conduct high quality test work whilst recording and interpreting results. Plan and prioritise your own work within the required deadlines whilst staying responsive to changing priorities. Plan and oversee the day-to-day technical running of our laboratories and safe operation of specialist research rigs, apparatus and laboratory equipment. Use your skills, knowledge, and experience to guide and support students and junior staff in their work. 

Your Experience

  • HNC in relevant subject, or equivalent qualifications, plus/or substantial work experience in a relevant role.
  • Experience in a workshop/lab, skills in knowledge transfer and training advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills to identify and understand student requirements/ideas.
  • Implementing Health and Safety guidelines. 

This role is initially offered on a fixed term contract until 31 December 2023. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours); however, applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 18.5 hours per week).
