The role holder will provide technical support for an Innovate UK project to determine the nutritional composition of insects (mainly house crickets) and their feed, samples of which will be provided by the industry partner, Oko Protein Ltd. The work will include freeze-drying, milling/ grinding and proximate nutrient analysis to determine protein, lipid, energy, amino acid and fatty acid contents of both the insects and their feed. The role holder may also be asked to help support the in vitro digestion laboratory.

The role holder will be involved in delivering timely and high-quality technical support within Biosciences in the Faculty of Science. They will primarily work within the analytical laboratories in the North Laboratory Building located at the Sutton Bonington Campus and will help the other technical staff with basic housekeeping as well as the laboratory analysis of samples.

Candidates must have a minimum of two A Levels in science-related subjects or equivalent vocational qualifications (NVQ, City & Guild), OR Considerable work experience in a relevant technical/scientific role.

They should preferably have knowledge and experience of working in a research laboratory setting, ideally with particular interest in digestion and nutrient availability and/or sustainable nutrition.  A GCSE (or equivalent) in a Science-related subject is desirable.

This is a fixed term, full time (36.25 hours per week) position available for 9 months. Job share arrangements may be considered.
