An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Technical Services team at Manchester Metropolitan University as a Health and Safety Coordinator.

Technical Services are a large and diverse team of highly skilled technicians who ensure the optimal functioning of specialist spaces and specialist equipment to deliver an exceptional student experience. We work in laboratories, workshops, studios, resource centres and digital facilities; our technical professionals play a key role supporting, guiding, and advising students across our university in all discipline areas from sciences, art, design and technology, through to sports, ceramics, nursing and physiotherapy. The Role:
In this new role, the role holder will provide a range of health and safety direction and support across Technical Services. They will work with Technical Services teams and customers to embed a positive, compliant and responsive health & safety culture. They will devise and lead a range of activities including annual continuous improvement plans, audits and inspections. The role spans all University specialist teaching and research specialist spaces and so will be varied and interesting.

About you:
The post holder will enjoy working with a range of different people and will be effective at supporting others to build and develop their own health and safety knowledge.

To succeed in this role, you will:

  • Have achieved a NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Be able to explain complex health and safety concepts and risk assessment techniques in ways that can be understood and appreciated by a variety of stakeholders (sometimes with very limited health & safety knowledge).
  • Possess experience of assessing and minimising risk.
  • Possess experience of translating legislation or policy into easy to understand and follow systems of work.
  • Possess experience of acting as a health & safety professional.
