FTE:  1.0FTE working 37 hours per week

Duration of Contract: Permanent

Salary:  UH4 £24,248 pa to £25,138 pa with potential to progress to £27,181 pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience.

Annual Leave: 25 days  25 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Location: College Lane Campus

Main duties and responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for the preparation of materials (including chemicals) and equipment for Practical teaching sessions in our state-of-the-art laboratories as well as clearing and safely disposing of materials after sessions are complete. Maintaining laboratories in a clean and tidy state, as well as ensuring that equipment is in good condition, safe to use and calibrated as necessary. Contributing to maintenance of chemical and equipment inventories and ensuring that health and safety practices are implemented and observed (health & safety training will be provided). As all technical staff members are trained fire wardens, this will also be a part of the role.

Skills and experience required

Central to the role is proven experience of working in a relevant laboratory environment, preferably gained within a higher education teaching establishment. An articulate and good communicator, the Technical Officer, Pharmaceutical Chemistry will be reliable and need to be a strong team player, as well as showing initiative and working independently when necessary.

It is essential to have the ability to be flexible and adaptable to team requirements by assisting in other related laboratories as the need arises. The ideal candidate would have the ability to explain and demonstrate laboratory techniques and procedures to students and staff.

Qualifications required

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area such as Chemistry Pharmaceutics, or a closely-related science.
