Technical Lead - Digital Manufacturing

The Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre is looking for a Technical Lead to play a major role in the leadership, management and expansion of applied research, innovation and knowledge transfer in Digital Manufacturing.

You will lead teams of engineers and technicians to undertake innovative research, design and research-support activities. This requires working in collaboration with different technology areas, technology providers, national technology centres, academia and industry to deliver key projects, developing regional and international links and securing partnerships and funding.

You will develop and implement technology strategies and contribute to building AMIC’s talent and capabilities. Our mission is to provide you with the environment to innovate and create impact - for business and society, in Northern Ireland and globally.

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following criteria:

  • Honours Degree, or equivalent, in related engineering discipline. 
  • Substantial relevant experience initiating, executing and managing multifaceted industrial and/or research projects within deadlines and budget, displaying strong resource management abilities.
  • Strong evidence of technical excellence and understanding of fundamental engineering concepts as evidenced by major project outcomes, reports, publications, patents or product designs. 
  • Extensive breadth and depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline and of research and development methods and techniques to work within established research programmes, with proven competence and technical expertise in:
    • Theory and implementation of Digital Manufacturing with experience using relevant software packages and associated manufacturing technologies. 
  • Experience of collaborative working in large multidisciplinary research and development teams. 
  • Experience in raising substantial funding to support the activities of the research group.

This post will be appointed for 3 years in the first instance. Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
