Job Title: Team Manager, BMC Series (Cross-journal)

About the Role
The BMC Series is a collection of community-focused, open access journals that cover all areas of science and medicine. The ethos of these journals is that editorial decisions are not based on the perceived impact or interest level of papers, but on rigorous science. We are looking to recruit an additional Team Manager to the BMC Series. You would lead and manage a global team of professional editors who provide flexible manuscript handling support across the BMC Series portfolio. You would be responsible for hiring and training team members, and for actively monitoring the journal pipelines to optimise the effectiveness for the portfolio overall. The Team Manager is an important member of the BMC Series management team and works closely with the Executive Editor and global teams to devise and implement plans for the effective management of the team and to deliver excellent author service while maintaining research integrity. This role is located in our London or Pune office on a hybrid working model.
Role Responsibilities:
- Recruit, train and develop a team of editors, setting performance goals and individual objectives
- Devise and implement a training scheme that can be delivered globally
- Drive operational excellence to deliver excellent author service
- Establish effective tracking and reporting of editorial support provided by the Cross-Journal Team
- Support the development of effective transfer pathways within BMC and the Fully OA portfolio
- Contribute to the wider BMC Series and Fully OA portfolio
- Establish, enhance and confirm the reputation of the BMC Series and Springer Nature in the scientific community by fostering good relationships with individual researchers
- Travel to other SN hubs as required
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
- Considerable manuscript-handling editorial experience on a quality peer-reviewed publication
- A thorough understanding of the scientific research community and its needs
- Sound knowledge and interest in science in general
- Strong interpersonal and influential communication skills, with effective presentation skills
- Highly self-motivated, resourceful and achievement oriented
- A creative approach to strategic planning and problem-solving
- Active, supportive team player
- Adaptability and flexibility - willing and able to travel to the US, Europe and Asia
