Teaching Technician

The Teaching Technician works in the team responsible for preparation, delivery and support of activities in the Teaching Laboratories of the School of Chemistry. We are a diverse and welcoming team that is passionate about delivering excellent service. The post holder will provide technical support in the laboratory and trouble shoot problems to ensure smooth and effective running of the service.  Labs are used for a range of activities throughout the year, to a variety of users - this is an exciting and vibrant environment. 

  • Work in line with Health and Safety guidelines 
  • Maintain stocks of materials and consumables
  • Prepare solutions and reagent bottles
  • Set up Lab equipment and instruments
  • Provide assistance and technical support to lab users
  • Help with end of day clear up 
  • Plan and prepare practical classes 
  • Assist with development of new experiments
  • Contribute to delivery of excellent lab experience  

You have a background in Chemistry and a keen interest in fostering a love of practical chemistry. Previous experience of working in a teaching-lab based environment is desirable but not essential. You will be highly organised with excellent time management, communication and multi-tasking skills. You will work well independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team. You will have proven experience of completing tasks to a high level of accuracy, with attention to detail; a methodical approach to work is desirable.  You have the desire to offer an excellent lab experience to our students and the drive to find the way to achieve that.

Contract type: Open ended

Work pattern: Full time

Grade: D

Salary: £22,214 - £24,248 per annum
