Job summary

The Graduate School includes all postgraduates at Imperial College London, totalling approximately 8000 students. In 2020-21 there were circa 11,000 student attendances at Graduate School courses.

The School’s core functions are to lead on postgraduate education policy, to deliver an innovative suite of professional development opportunities to both Master’s and research students, and to support the postgraduate student experience by championing the development of research student communities, delivering the College’s doctoral student coaching programme and by hosting College-wide postgraduate events which stimulate interdisciplinary connections.

The Graduate School is recruiting a Teaching Fellow to join the Research Computing Skills and Data Science Programme . This team consists of four Teaching Fellows who develop and deliver a suite of courses in fundamental computing and data skills that underpin research projects across disciplines.


Duties and responsibilities

The successful candidate will develop and deliver research computing or data science workshops and will contribute to the creation of online training resources. The candidate will work with students, colleagues in the Graduate School and academic staff to help shape the development of the programme. There will also be close liaison with the Business School in delivering and assessing programming modules, particularly Python and R languages in MSc and MBA programmes.


Essential requirements

The candidate must have (or be close to finishing) a postgraduate degree in STEMM or business. They should have extensive experience with research computing methods acquired in the context of research project(s). This involves good programming and scripting skills particularly in Python and R. Teaching experience is preferable but more importantly, candidates should have a willingness and motivation to develop, improve and reflect upon their teaching skills. Experience or keen interest in business applications are strongly recommended.
