The School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine & Sciences (SCMMS) is one of the UK's leading centres for cardiovascular, metabolic and translational research. As part of the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine at King's College London, the School brings together internationally renowned researchers, clinicians and educators to advance understanding of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity and related disorders, with the aim of improving prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

The School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine and Sciences (SCMMS) is dedicated to investigating key diseases (heart failure, vascular and metabolic dysfunction and ageing) and being world leaders in new areas such as regenerative medicine. In parallel, we aim to educate scientists and doctors and through our iBSc Cardiovascular Medicine, MSc Cardiovascular Science and the new Cardio-metabolic theme within Bioscience education. Our education delivery is dependent upon committed staff to provide research-led teaching and inspire students with basic science and translational research projects utilizing the wide variety of skills and cross-cutting techniques we have to offer.

About The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Teaching Fellow to join the Department of Physiology within the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine & Sciences (SCMMS), part of King's College London's Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine.

Working alongside a collaborative team of expert educators and research-active academics, you will contribute to the delivery and development of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across a range of bioscience and healthcare-related programmes. You will play a key role in creating an engaging and inclusive learning experience, using a variety of teaching approaches and innovative learning technologies to support student success.

This fixed-term position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the continued development of our educational portfolio, including new modules and student projects, while working closely with both basic and clinical scientists. The role is ideally suited to someone looking to develop their academic teaching practice within a supportive, research-intensive environment that values excellence in education, professional development, and collaboration.

This is a part-time post – 0.8 FTE (28 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 1 year from start of contract.


About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: 

Essential criteria

  • PhD or MD in a relevant biological sciences or clinical subject 
  • Training and expertise in cardiovascular and/or ageing sciences 
  • Experience of developing new innovative teaching approaches 
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills & ability to work under pressure to achieve goals and meet deadlines. 
  • Experience of designing and delivering teaching sessions 
  • Experience of providing constructive feedback in an academic environment 
  • Postdoctoral research experience
  • Desirable criteria

  • Self-motivated, ability to work independently 
  • Commitment to continuing personal and professional development 
  • Supervision of undergraduate and/or postgraduate research projects 
  • Mentoring PhD/postgraduate students 
  • Publications in high ranking, peer reviewed journals 
  • Teaching Qualification
