Applications are invited for the post of Teaching Fellow (Integrated Foundation Year - Humanities) in the department of Education Development.

The Integrated Foundation Year programme is a key pillar of the College’s commitment to access to Higher Education and aims to prepare students who haven’t quite met the required grades for direct entry, do not possess the right combination of subjects, or have been out of education for a long time, to successfully transition into their undergraduate programmes.  The successful candidate will have a PhD, a recognised teaching qualification and experience teaching at levels 3 and 4. The post holders will play a key role in delivering and assessing NQF level 3 subject content and transition to level 4 on the Humanities strand and are open to candidates in a number of arts, humanities, and languages disciplines who are able to teach across a range of subject areas, geographies and historical periods. Candidates should be able to teach on at least two of the following units / areas:

  • Cultures of Reading (literature, performance texts)
  • Cultures of Looking (visual cultures and media)
  • Objects and Rituals (material cultures, social practices, behaviours and rituals)
  • Digital Cultures (critical approaches to digital culture and its social and artistic impact)
  • Inter-disciplinary Approaches to Global Challenges (cultural and social issues)

Curriculum development may also be required as part of the drive for continuous improvement of teaching and learning within the Centre. Marking and course administration form an integral part of the role.

Successful candidates should be enthusiastic, empathetic and student-centred practitioners, bring intellectual excitement and energy to the teaching, have subject-specific knowledge, and experience of teaching at level 3 and / or undergraduate level. Candidates should have a passion for developing the skills of students, and an interest in innovative approaches to an inclusive university education.
